BACK WHERE IT ALL STARTED…PORTLAND!
Back in October 2009, a brand new road course endurance racing series was just hitting the
motorsports scene…making its debut at Portland International Raceway! How many of you chumps
were there to experience this epic 24 hour overnight event, which was red flagged in the wee hours
of the morning due to unprecedented fog? Take a moment to relive this momentous event by
viewing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlOynuOTpTU. Following that event, the City received
“a few calls” regarding the purr of race cars after hours, ending the track’s overnight racing program.
After growing to 70+ races in 3 countries annually, ChumpCar was determined to bring back some
form of 24 hour racing to Stumptown!
This road course is almost perfectly flat, runs clockwise, includes a hard chicane at the end of the
front straight and involves twelve turns at length of 1.967 miles.

CHUMPCAR 2014 MEMBERSHIP INFO...
Per the email blast last month (and the Forum post
http://forum.chumpcar.com/index.php?/topic/11097-club-membership-required-dues/), there are
some advantages to both drivers and crew to purchase their 2014 $20 prorated membership fees
either online (see below) or at the track this weekend with Marcia.
Drivers Benefit: For 2015 event registration which opens Nov. 1, 2014, you must be a member.
Purchasing your 2014 membership provides you with a two month advantage for registering for next
year’s events. More below.
Crew Benefit: With membership, you receive free crew entry to remaining 2014 races. So for the
same $20 you’ll pay for a Crew band at PIR this weekend, you can pay your $20 2014 membership
and receive entry to all remaining 2014 events.
To recap...if a team is not racing with us after 15 September 2014, they don't have to have a 2014
membership… they need not be a member until they want to race with us again. After 15
September 2014, any participation with ChumpCar will require a paid membership (including the
November Chumpionship Las Vegas).
However, teams need to note that if they plan on making 2015 event reservations and paying a race
deposit once the 2015 schedule comes out (on 1 November), they will have to be a member to
access the on-line registration process, so they may have to pay the 2014 membership dues
anyway. For certain 2015 events, they may be put on a waiting list if those events fill-up while
they're trying to save a few bucks by delaying paying their 2014 membership dues. Regular 2015
membership dues will open and be available for payment on 1 January -- that's 2 months of preregistration that they'll be behind the curve on. What this does is it provides CURRENT members
with an advantage to register early for next year's events.


All teams are required to complete Tech/Registration! Should you arrive after
10:00am on Friday, ChumpCar will not be able to conduct Tech Inspection on your car
until after the green flag at 12:00pm and when ChumpCar staff becomes available once
the race is successfully underway. WE’RE ON A VERY TIGHT SCHEDULE! Don’t show
up at the last minute; cars in line for Tech by 10:00am will be processed…the rest of you
late birds will watch the race start without you!
If you already have a 2014 Annual Tech Sticker, you are not required to bring the car


Teams must print their Tech Inspection forms before arrival and fill-out all forms before
entering the Tech line. AND BE SURE TO BRING YOUR LOG BOOK. New teams will
receive one during Tech. And veteran teams who have lost their Log
Book…hmmm…that could be real bad 

REMEMBER THAT THIS TRACK HAS AN INTERIOR PADDOCK AREA THAT IS NOT
ACCESSIBLE BY VEHICLE FROM THE OUTSIDE DURING THE RACE (I.E., WHILE
THE TRACK IS HOT). It is advisable that all teams park a service car outside the
paddock, near the foot bridge, for all fuel runs, off-track service, parts and supply needs.

BE SURE TO CHECK THAT YOUR GEAR HAS NOT EXPIRED PER CHUMPCAR’S
RULES, SECTION 3. For example, you will not be allowed to run with an SA2000
helmet. Snell SA2005 or SA2010 is mandatory. FIA 8860-2004/2010 certification is

Portland Supplemental Rules
Driving and Track Supplemental Rules:
 SR1 – Pit Lane Speed Limit is 25 mph. (That’s about 1,500-2000 RPM in second gear for most
cars.) The speed limit shall be in effect for the entire length of the outer pit wall. Paddock
Speed Limit is 15mph and paddock traffic will run in one direction only.
 SR2 - Sound Limits: A 92dB noise restriction will be strongly, strictly and unimaginably
enforced. (Own a rotary? Don't even think about running here without a stock muffler system.)
While ChumpCar’s db limit is 92, the track’s db level is reduced to 90 db after 10:00pm each
night….we need to be extra vigilant in our attempt to keep the noise down.
 SR3 – At this time, we do not anticipate assigning pit stalls. Paddock spots and pit stall lanes
are available on a first-come, first-served basis. HOWEVER, in the event we do end up with a
large field, pit stalls will need to be shared. We will keep teams posted on this so that you’ll the
opportunity to request to share a stall with your fellow chumps. And if car count exceeds pit
lane capability, the paddock will be used for pit stops.
Again, Pit lane stalls will not be assigned (nor available for reservation) but rather available on a
first-come, first-served basis. NEW – WE ASK THAT YOU MARK YOUR STALL ON HOT PIT
LANE IN SOMEWAY WITH YOUR CAR NUMBER SO THAT PIT MARSHALS MAY FIND
YOU. Duct tape made into your car number on the pavement in front of your pit stall works
well…again, on the hot pit lane side 
Pit & Paddock Supplemental Rules:
 SRPP1 – Fueling of all race cars shall be completed by use of 5-gallon plastic jugs and funnels,
hoses or other fueling adapters as specified in the BCR. Jugs must have sealable lids/caps.
Metal fuel drums or other fuel containers (no overhead fuel rigs) and caddies with manual

www.chumpcar.com
infowest@chumpcar.com
pumps (no electric pumps) and hose lines are allowed to re-fill plastic jugs but are not allowed
for re-fueling race cars. All fuel storage must be maintained on the ”cold” side of the pit wall or
kept within your transporter.
Effective 2014, all fueling / gasoline catch pans MUST:
1) be manufactured of metal or sturdy, chemical-resistant, vacuum-formed plastic
2) maintain a minimum 3" lip around the entire circumference or edge
3) must hold a minimum of 1-gallon (4-quarts) of liquid
4) must be larger than 12" square or 12" in diameter and shall not exceed 24" square or
24" in diameter
Notation: flat drip pans or trays (whether metallic or plastic), rugs, cardboard and/or any
other so-called "container" is no longer approved for use.
 SRPP2 – All teams shall have one (1) fully-charged 10LB ABC fire extinguisher in their pit area.
All teams shall have one (1) 10LB bag of kitty litter or other reasonable absorbitant for oil leaks
and/or fuel spillage in their pit area. Having a broom handy is also be advisable.
 SRPP3 – Drivers may remain in the car during fueling and driver changes may also be
completed PROVIDED VISORS ARE KEPT DOWN. All engines and electrical kill switches
must be off during fueling. NO WORK ON ANY CAR SHALL BE COMPLETED DURING
REFUELING. (Note: Replenishing of cool-suit or drinking liquids is considered additional work
and is not allowed. Cleaning of windshields has been disallowed from approved operations.)
 SRPP4 – All work and/or repairs that can be made to your race cars in under thirty (30) minutes
may be executed in the Pit Lane; all repairs requiring more than 30 minutes time must be
completed in the Paddock Area. A penalty of 1 lap for every five (5) minutes of work in the pit
lane that exceeds 30 minutes shall be levied.
 SRPP5 – Those involved in fueling race cars must wear a Nomex driver’s suit, gloves and fullface helmet WITH VISOR DOWN. No crew members, tools or staged fuel jugs are allowed
over the wall until the team car has come to a complete stop in the pit box. Only one fuel jug
over the wall at a time!
Any team member over the wall (including fire bottle attendant) while fuel is being added to a
race car must wear fireproof safety equipment. This includes fire suit, gloves and helmet with
visor down. Balaclava and goggles are no longer accepted per the 2014 rules. Non-driver, crew
members may utilize a single-layer suit without underwear, but gloves and full face helmet with
closed visor are required. Other than non-open toed shoes, shoes and socks are open for nondriving crew members performing (re)fueling but fireproof socks and leather shoes are HIGHLY
advisable.
 SRPP6 – Electric, propane or kerosene heaters within the “cold” side of the pit wall are allowed
provided all heating elements or flame sources are directed away from any flammable material
and are kept a minimum of 20’ from any fuel storage. No open flame stoves or BBQs are
allowed in the cold pits. However, BBQ’s are allowed in the transporter parking area and
paddock area, provided all BBQ’s are supervised at all times, a fire extinguisher is within 15’ of

the open flame, and all open flames are (at a minimum) 30’ from all race cars, fuel storage or
other flammable sources.
 SRPP7 – All cars, used or junk parts too big for a normal trash can, empty fuel drums and
anything else you brought with you must be taken out with you.
 SRPP8 – Portland’s road course has limited pit lane and front straight track lighting, as well as
minimal pit/paddock area lighting. Be advised that ambient lighting may not be sufficient for
fueling or mechanical repairs. Therefore, teams are advised to consider alternate power
and lighting sources. Teams are also advised to consider outfitting all team members with a
good flashlight.
OPTIMA BATTERY DISTRIBUTION/ALL CHUMPS:
ChumpCar and series sponsor, Optima Batteries is pleased to host another battery distribution
event at PIR! Batteries will be distributed to each team who presents a completed Log Book on
Saturday night, October 25, from 3:00pm-5:00pm at Race Central at the Timing Tower in the
Paddock. If your team has previously received a battery from ChumpCar, you are not eligible to
receive another battery. When you receive your battery, the battery serial number will be noted for
warranty exchange purposes. And be advised that we have no input as to which model of battery is
delivered by Optima…yellow, red, or blue top…we get what we get.
If you are not racing, you can still present your team’s Log Book to receive your battery. At this time,
there is no shipping of teams’ free batteries…get your chump rump to a battery distribution party!
