Freshmen nametags will soon be no longer needed, sophomores are glad to have someone else walk around campus with their heads shaven, juniors are enjoying the relative peace of their junior year, and seniors are balancing their academically challenging curriculum with the completion of their college applications. October is packed with many Mothers’ Club events: We start off the month of October with College Night on October 8th. This event provides students at Jesuit with a great opportunity to visit with representatives from over 200 different colleges and universities from all over the United States. Next is Homecoming weekend scheduled for October 10th - 11th. We highly encourage all students to attend both the game and the dance. For the mothers, this is a lot of fun as we help our sons with Homecoming activities such as buying or making mums, making dinner plans, and taking many pictures. sS On October 15th we have one of my favorite events of the year - The Mother/Son Luncheon. This event is a great time to take pictures and to see how our sons have transformed from little shaved-head freshmen to young adults. This year we are lucky to have Major Dan Rooney as our speaker. He is not only a decorated veteran and F-16 Fighter Pilot, but he is also the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, a non-profit organization that has raised over $22 million dollars in donations for spouses and children of those killed or disabled in their service to America. Since being founded in 2007, the Folds of Honor Foundation has awarded nearly 4,000 scholarships making Major Dan Rooney the embodiment of a Man for Others. Last, but not least, the senior mothers will host the first Faculty/Staff Appreciation luncheon on October 29th and our Mothers’ Club Overnight Retreat is on November 1st and 2nd . I hope you join us at all Mothers’ Club events in October and the many exciting events throughout the rest of the school year. I wish you a Spooktacular Halloween! All the best, ]ÉtÇ atétÜ|É ************************************** Strake Jesuit Student Dance Chaperones The Chaperone Committee provided chaperones for the Orientation Dance on Saturday, August 23rd. Ten moms and six dads helped that evening. Everyone did a fantastic job and we got to know each other a little better. The committee is now preparing for the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 11th. We have enough volunteers for the doors, but we are still short on volunteers for the coat check. If you are available, please email Liliana Janer at Ljaner@comcast.net or Leslie Farías at Lfarias@comcast.net. ************************************** Catholic High Schools’ College Night Wednesday, October 8th 6:30 – 8:30 pm Catholic High Schools College Night will be held Wednesday, October 8th from 6:30-8:30pm in the Strake Jesuit Competition Gym.
