OCTOBER 2014 Medicare Information Breakfast Senior Services will be hosting a “Changes in Medicare Information Breakfast” on October 9th at 9-11am in the Buckeye Room of the Agricultural Services Center, 18000 SR 4, Marysville. The Medicare Part D (prescription drug plan) enrollment period will begin on October 15, and end on December 7, 2014. Your application submitted during the Annual Enrollment Period will become effective on January 1, 2015. OSHIIP (The Ohio Department of Insurance) will be speaking on the changes in Medicare and answering questions. Personal appointments can be made with the OSHIIP trained staff of Union County Senior Services to help you one-on-one. Call 937.644.9629 with questions. Senior Living Festival at the Hollywood Casino The COAAA 4th Annual Senior Living Festival is a free celebration for older adults October 31, 2014 10am-2pm in the new venue, The Hollywood Casino. The event includes free admission, information exhibits, door prizes, lunch buffet at the special price of only $7, Medicare check-ups, antique appraisals (2 small items only), chair massage, vision screenings, ear canal screenings, blood glucose screenings, foot & ankle screenings, nutritional screenings and flu shots available at the Giant Eagle Pharmacy booth (Medicare / health insurance accepted). Live entertainment including Jazz Hall of Fame saxophonist Carl Sally, Angelo Babbaro’s “Frank Sinatra Tribute”, “Men in Black” synchronized linedancers, Red Hat fashion show, free caricature artists, the Columbus Zoo and more!!! Senior Job Club The Ohio Means Jobs-Union County Business Team is excited to introduce a new resource to mature job seekers. Join us on October 20th 9am-noon in meeting rooms A/B at 940 London Avenue in Marysville, Ohio for Senior Job Club. Support will be offered to seniors in finding employment by improving their job search skills and supplying a link to community services and potential employers. Senior Job Club will assist participants in structuring targeted resumes, practicing behavioral interviewing techniques and navigating digital-age job searching and networking. This program is funded through the Union County Senior Services Sales Tax. Get Ready for Winter with Project Safe Heat Get Your Furnace Cleaned! Community Action Organization has received Senior Services Sales Tax Dollars for homeowners 60 or older to have their gas / propane / fuel oil furnace cleaned and tuned and to receive a carbon monoxide detector. Union County seniors age 60+ who have not applied for Project Safe Heat in the last 2 years should contact the Community Action Organization, 648 Clymer Rd, Suite 130, Marysville, or call 937.642.4986 for information or an application. This program is funded through the Union County Senior Services Sales Tax. CareTrain Holiday Groceries Grant Dollars Available Seniors 60 and over with a monthly income of less than $1,945 single and $2,621 for a two person household may qualify for a food voucher to be used at a local grocery store for the holidays from Care Train of Union County. Food vouchers will be distributed the week of Christmas. Call Susan at Union County Senior Services to get a senior application 937.644.9629 ext 2 or go on-line www.ucseniors.org or www.caretrain.org. **Applications must be turned in on or before November 20th.** Grant applications are available for any agency that would like to apply for funding from the Senior Services Sales Tax to provide a program or service that would benefit the seniors of Union County. 2015 grant applications are available on the web at www.ucseniors.org or by calling Molly 937.644.9629. Union County Senior Services is able to help with the application process at no cost to Union County Seniors. Call Senior Services to request an application 937.644.9629 or toll-free 866.722.9629. Please make an appointment for help with filing. You will need proof of income and your last heating and electric bill. BMV Next of Kin Registry Register your next of kin contact information to be accessed only by law enforcement and BMV personnel in the event that you are in a serious car crash. Up to two contacts each with three phone numbers can be linked to your drivers license. You may register your information on-line at www.bmv.ohio.gov/nok.stm If you have questions about the program, call the Next of Kin Registry at 614.325.4720. Do you have a Head for Numbers & a Heart for People? The Marysville Public Library partners with AARP to provide AARP Tax-Aide, a free service to seniors and lowincome families during tax season each year. This is a popular program, and this year the library needs your help to continue to provide this service. If you have a head for numbers, this may be the volunteer opportunity for you! AARP provides training in January. Volunteers then make a commitment to volunteer 3 hours per week on Thursdays in February, March and April to assist people with their income tax returns. Incontinence Health Discounts The Union County Senior Services’ Incontinence Health program is available for Union County Seniors age 60 and over with a physician’s prescription. This program offers select incontinence products at a reduced facility cost or less depending on the client’s ability to pay. Product is delivered directly to the senior’s home on a monthly basis. Bus Monitor / Driver & Substitute Opportunity First Student is currently looking for a bus monitor and a substitute in their transportation department. First Student provides busing for the Harold Lewis Center. Harold Lewis provides education for developmentally delayed and disabled students. Pay is $10/hour and you would be guaranteed 5 hours a day. If you like working with children, this could be a great opportunity for you! Contact Rick Morris 937.645.6733 for more information. Senior Watch Call Program - Safe at Home The Union County Sheriff’s Office operates a call system with a grant from the Senior Services Sales Tax. The computer automatically dials households daily checking on the resident to ensure that they are OK. It can redial the number several times depending on the resident’s preferences. If there is no response, a message can be provided to a family member or a monitoring center informing them that the resident is not responding to the call. This is a free service provided to any Union County resident. Call Deputy Kim at the Sheriff’s Office to be added to the call list 937.645.4100 x-4471. This program is funded through the Union County Senior Services Sales Tax. Windsor Remodeling The Windsor Senior Center has suspended all activities during the renovation of the new Friendship Café through mid-October. Consider calling uride to visit friends, organize lunch dates, have a picnic in the park, check out fitness classes, or take shopping trips within the Marysville city limits.
