Twenty Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Fatima Pilgrimage
Bishop John Arnold
Sat 11 - Wed 15 Oct 2014
We had a lovely final meeting on Sunday
when three of the ladies from Heywood
who are joining our pilgrimage came along
too - a lovely group and who fitted in
straight away. Adrian, our courier, from
Options Travel came too. We received all
our documents,: tickets, itinerary, hymn
book, etc. so we are all set to go.
Our Pilgrimage starts with Mass in Church
on Sat at 7.15 then we fly from M/c to
Lisbon. In Fatima we stay at the Lux
Mundi Hotel for four nights. Following in
the footsteps of Lucy and her two younger
cousins Jacinta and brother Francisco we
visit The Sanctuary, Valinhos, Cabenca and
Aljustrel where the Apparitions occurred.
We have our own Mass each day except on
13th Oct when we join thousands of other
Pilgrims, mostly Portuguese, for Mass on
the steps of the Basilica.
We will remember all you in our prayers.
Thanks to Father Fulop who will say the
weekend Masses and to Mary Oliver for
looking after everything.
Bishop John Arnold, who is to succeed
Bishop Terence Brain as the Bishop of our
Diocese of Salford will be installed on
Monday 8th December 2014, the Feast of
the “Immaculate Conception.”
Bishop John, aged 61 years, was born in
Sheffield and has been in Westminster,
London, for the last 41 years. He studied
Law at Oxford University, Cannon Law in
Rome and has had pastoral experience as
Chaplain to Westminster Hospital and as a
Parish Priest in London for 8 years.
We will continue to pray for him and for
Bishop Brain as he prepares for retirement.

EWTN - Fatima Live
You may wish to watch Mass in Honour of
Our Lady of Fatima on Mon 13th Oct at
10am the anniversary of Our Lady/s last
apparition to the shepherd children.
Live on Sky 589
Emily Park who crowned Our
Lady’s statue was ably assisted by Declan Lucas. who
carried the floral crown, and
all Year 4 dressed as for their
First Communion Day.
Thanks to the altar servers and choir who
turned out in big numbers. Sadly very few
parishioners in the congregation. These
solemn religious traditions will fade away
and we wonder why!
Flowers for the Sacred Heart
The Flowers in front of the Sacred Heart
Statue this weekend are in
memory of Dot O’ Neill
whose third anniversary was
on Thurs 9th Oct.
May she rest in peace.
