OKTOBERFEST 2014 - The time is fast approaching

We are still looking for people to chair the BBQ Booth (serving food only), Funnel Cake Booth, and 7-11
Game Booth. All supplies will be provided! Contact kprado@stmorenews.com if you are interested or would
like more information.
Now is the time to bring your gently used books for the Used Book Booth. Bring your books to the School
Office.
Get out your favorite cake, cookie, or brownie recipe. The Sweet Shoppe and the Cake Walk need cakes,
cookies, and brownies. Drop your baked goods off on Saturday, Oct. 18 th from 9:00 - noon or Sunday,
October 19 th before 10:00 a.m.
Do you have some plants you would like to donate? Plan to bring your plants on Friday or Saturday,
October 17 or 18 th .
The Candy Store is collecting old fashioned and movie theater candy....$1 boxes of Junior Mints, Dots, Hot
Tamales, Milk Duds, Now and Later, etc. For additional information, see the flyer attached to this memo.
Bring your donation to the School Office by Tuesday, October 14 th .
Ring-a-Liter needs 2 liter bottles of your favorite soda. This is a very popular booth, so please donate a
couple of 2 liter bottles. These can also be delivered to the School Office starting tomorrow!
DO NOT FORGET TO KEEP SELLING YOUR RAFFLE TICKETS.
We need every family to support Oktoberfest!!!!
OKTOBERFEST SWEET SHOPPE NEEDS YOUR HELP: Now is the time to get out your
favorite recipes and start baking those pies, cookies, brownies, cakes and other mouth watering
sweets for the Oktoberfest Sweet Shoppe. If possible, please have the cookies and brownies
bagged and ready for sale - AND please mark it if they contain NUTS...we do have quite a few
people with nut allergies! You may drop off your delicious sweets at the Preschool on Friday,
October 17 before 6 pm, in the Scout House on Saturday, October 18 from Noon until 3 pm and
all day on Sunday. If you have any questions, please call Nina Coltharp at 713-729-9062

making it to the semi-final game at the St. Agnes Volleyball tournament this past weekend.

PARISH NEWS:
STM Sewing/Craft Guild will be meeting each Thursday, starting Sept. 18, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
in Donovan’s Den. We’ll be working on projects for Oktoberfest and our Christmas Sale. Please
join us if you are able. If not, please be working on your projects at home. Thank you for your

Holy Hour for Youth - St. Thomas More is going to celebrate a Holy Hour for Youth on Friday,
October 24th. The holy hour will be lead by Fr Hai and begin at 7PM at the front of church. There
will be a procession with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima followed by a crowning in church. For
the remaining part of the hour there will be adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and praying the
rosary for our Holy Fathers intentions and for peace in the world. Refreshments and pizza will be
shared afterwards in Servant Hall about 8PM. Please bring something to share with everyone.
Parents and all faithful are invited to attend. Any questions can be directed to Jeannie Sindelar at

day to take an Accelerated Reader test for the first quarter. To
receive assigned AR pts., students must pass at least two (2) AR quizzes EACH quarter. The

The calendar color for October is YELLOW . The DATE DUE is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31 .
A parent signature is required on the completed calendar for each month from October 2014 thru
March 2015. Students are asked to give their calendar to Mrs. Fontenot.
This is an optional reading incentive program for K-6 grade students. All students who return the six
(6) monthly calendars at the end of each month to will have their name placed in a drawing for a
special prize on May 6, 2015.
The Junior Librarian Club members met on October 6
th
and showed that the library is definitely a
place for creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and a love of reading. Twenty-five
students in 4th and 5
th
grade set into motion the theme of Let’s Get Organized. W ay-2-Go Junior
Librarians!!! W orking with you is no work at all :) Mr. Dewey D. W orm and I are so happy having you
as our friends. W e will see in November for our next theme meeting of: How Many Turkeys Tall Are
You.
“Thank You” Gabbie Bode for thinking of us when you traveled to New York with your family. The
Story of the Statue of Liberty is a fascinating and comprehensive history of the beloved American
landmark by sculptor Frederic Bartholdi.

need your help please…if you could donate some old
fashioned candy or movie theater candy…we are looking

Ike, Lemon Drops, BottleCaps, the large lollipops etc.
