Literacy
We will be:

Reading and discussing a range of poems, stories
set in the past and information texts.

Exploring and creating similes.

Writing poems experimenting with similes.

Writing short stories set in the past.

Science
In Science we will be linking our learning to our topic by
investigating living things and their habitats. It will give the
children opportunity to learn about the interdependence of
living things and how the environment and living things need
to be protected.
You can help by: Talking to your children about where
animals live and why they may live there! Also, visiting local
nature sites and record what you see!
You can help by: Ensuring that your child reads his home
reader daily and by reading with your child.
Numeracy
SEAL
“New Beginnings” – The children will have the
opportunity to experience how it feels to belong and
to be valued as an individual within a community. They
will create a class charter with the emphasis on
making the classroom a welcoming place.
ICT
The children will be learning about blogging. The
children will learn how to contribute and share their
news, knowledge and opinion as well as commenting on
the work of others. At home parents will be able to
access the site and gain a greater insight into the
work the children are doing in school. Guidelines will
be sent home shortly.
Homework Reminder!!
Homework will be sent home each week on a
Friday to be returned by the following
Wednesday. If you have any questions about
the homework, please make a note in your
child’s planner or contact us at school before
the day it is due to be handed in.
We will be:

Learning the value of the digits in numbers.

Comparing and ordering negative numbers.

Multiplying and dividing numbers by 10 and 100.

Learning multiplication and division facts.

Adding and subtracting numbers mentally.

Solving puzzles and problems.

Extending our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes.

Collecting data and then organising, representing
and interpreting it in charts and tables.

Choosing and using different units of measure.

Using a calculator.
You can help by: Supporting your child to learn tables in
and out of order. (And to be able to say the division
fact!)
PE – Thursday and alternate Wednesdays.
Please ensure that your child has full kit in school - white t-shirt, black
shorts and PE pumps or trainers for outside only. If the weather is
cold a sweatshirt and long black sports trousers can be worn. P.E.
will be taught weekly by Miss Gleeson on Thursdays and every other
Wednesday by Bolton Wanderers sports coaches.
Music – We will continue to have music lessons led by Bolton Music
Service. In addition to this Y4 children will have violin lesson on
Wednesday mornings.
Topic - Brilliant Bolton!
We will be following a creative curriculum with the
topic “Brilliant Bolton” as our theme. Y4 will focus on
the local vicinity around school – including Barrow
Bridge. In Geography, we will use and draw maps,
undertake field work and collect and record
information. In Art, we will explore the artist Alfred
East who is famous for painting Bolton landscapes! You
can help your child by: Using and looking at local maps,
researching the history of the town and its people by
visiting libraries, using the internet, looking at
photographs, pictures and drawings. Children can talk to
older relatives about Bolton and look at memorabilia.
RE: The children will learn about the different beliefs,
practices and celebrations that take place in the Major
religions of the world during a series of RE days.

These are a useful way of communicating
between home and school. Please check the
planner each night and return it to school
every day.
Targets are in the back of the planner. Please
sign them so we know you have read them.
