Building Forum
The Building Forum is for business leaders who want to better understand the issues related to Building Information Modeling “BIM” enabled process improvements and their influence on business. BIM is no longer an interesting idea but has emerged as the next generation business enabler for the design, construction and operations of buildings. The use of information models and collaborative processes have demonstrated improved productivity and minimized risks in project delivery. This series of presentations and interactive discussions are intended to inform attendees on industry motivations, provide a venue to share lessons learned and identify actionable business improvements.

There is NO Turning Back ‐ BIM!
Building information modeling (BIM) is being adopted around the world. Governments are providing financial stimulus and creating mandates for BIM deliverables, and project delivery methods are changing. This presentation will discuss why “It’s not a matter of if, but when your firm will implement BIM."
David Philp, Head of BIM at Mace and Head of BIM HM Government BIM Task Group, 14:00

BIM: Why Do I Care? ‐ An Owner's Perspective
This discussion will debate whether building information modeling (BIM) is the new way of doing business. Attendees will hear how facility owners have begun to stipulate a BIM contract deliverable, which is requiring design teams and construction delivery partners to engage with owners and understand their BIM business requirements. Owners are using BIM to manage risk, control costs, and make operational startup more efficient. In Pursuit of Design Excellence
Today’s design environment is rich with tools to allow designers to explore new materials, innovative construction methods, and create high‐performance systems. Join industry experts as they discuss design processes that stretch the imagination for creative invention. Topics will include how visual immersion and idea virtualization improves communications and understanding of design alternatives, how optioneering and simulation provide confidence in new ideas, and how to access design talent around the globe.
Martin Reuter, Managing Director, Ingenhoven Architects Francis Aish, Head of Applied Research and Development, Foster+Partners Cory Brugger, Director of Design Technology, Morphosis Architects

Project Knowledge Management
This discussion will explore the role of project knowledge management in managing decisions and improving project delivery processes. Project knowledge management contributes to an organization’s success in driving continuous improvement. A goal of knowledge management is to translate organizational and project information into knowledge that can be communicated, shared, and ultimately reused. One component of project knowledge management to be discussed will be connecting the right people to the right information using the most efficient and effective methods possible. The Value of BIM Intellect
Design firms seek future projects based on their reputation for design excellence and client satisfaction. Unfortunately, for most design firms, the business has been commoditized by competitive pricing based on labor hours and rates. Building information modeling (BIM) is seen as a differentiator for improving the client experience, collaborating smarter as a team, and delivering new value to the client. Can design and contracting firms charge higher fees for this added value? This discussion will explore the strategies to grow a firm’s BIM intellect and position this added value to clients.

Multi‐discipline BIM Enabled with Interoperability The multi‐discipline BIM project environment provides a rich workspace for project participants to contribute to a well‐coordinated design. Because project teams comprise many disciplines, often from many companies, several software applications might be used in the design. This federated BIM approach requires data interoperability for effective collaboration. This discussion will explore the business benefits of the multi‐discipline BIM project environment enabled with interoperability.

Building Forum Session
Successful construction management requires the coordination of many complex activities, including risk management and financial management. Software applications utilizing data‐rich building information models are providing new tools to manage these coordination requirements, and supporting collaboration and document management. This discussion will explore innovative changes in construction management enabled by building information modeling (BIM) and collaborative project delivery processes.
