Readings for today
Exodus 33:12-23—Moses successfully interceded with God to accompany
Israel to the holy land after their sin with the golden calf. In response to a
request to display his glory, God recites a sentence that appears frequently in
the Old Testament: "I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious." Moses is
not allowed to see God's face, but only God's back.
Psalm 99
1 Thessalonians 1:1-10—Paul is giving pastoral encouragement and
reassurances to new Christians living in an antagonistic pagan environment.
Their commitment of faith, love, and hope makes them a model for other
new Christian communities.
Matthew 22:1-14— When the Pharisees try to
trap Jesus, he tells them to give the emperor
what belongs to him and to God what belongs
to God. To gather for worship reminds us that
our ultimate allegiance is to God rather than to
any earthly authority. Created in the image of
God, we offer our entire selves in the service of
God and for the sake of the world.

Upcoming Events

Come join us for our annual FLY Spaghetti Dinner and Haunted House! On
October 25 at 6:00 p.m., we begin with our bountiful
spaghetti dinner. We will follow that with a “scary”
trip through FLC, appropriate for all ages. Donations
are gratefully accepted as this will help fund sending
FLY to the Lutheran Youth Gathering this summer in
Detroit. For more information contact Pastor Kate at
pastork@flcpa.org or 818-939-5817. Come one and
all, – invite your friends! We will have a hauntingly
good time!
You will soon be receiving your pledge packet, and we hope that
you will consider making a pledge to support FLC and its
ministries in 2015. Thank you!
Altar flowers today are donated by ingrid Yule.
