The leaves are beginning to change and the air begins to get cool as we move into fall and my
beloved football season. We had a very good summer which concluded with our annual Golf Outing.
The outing was another great success thanks to Don Reichert, his committee, and all the volunteers
that assisted. We followed that up with our Pride in Priests Dinner, with nine priests as our guests. It
was a very good evening and well supported.
We have seen some outstanding support for the events conducted while I have been Grand
Knight and we need to build on recent successes. In October we will have our Past Grand Knight
Dinner and we will recognize Priesthood Sunday in all of our Parishes. Keep in mind our need for
new members and ask a friend, relative or neighbor if they might like to join. We are planning a
membership campaign in the coming weeks.
Brothers, our Council is still in need of your help for Bingo. Please consider spending an
evening assisting our regular volunteers. We have openings on our Teams, but think about just
stopping by and assisting in any way you can. Perhaps stopping in one night to participate is an
option as well.
As always, remember in your prayers; the sick, the dying, the unborn, the lonely and our
military personnel.
Vivat Jesus! Jim

THE DOMESTIC CHURCH
Pope Paul VI described the family very well by calling it a ‘domestic church’. Like the wider
church that gathers regularly to pray, so a regular family can do the same thing by taking time to pray.
These times of prayer can be arranged to best suit individual needs. Something as simple as praying
before meals, or setting time aside for evening prayer before the children go to sleep, can create
strong bonds among family members.

Here as a parish family we are aware of those in need of our support. You, my brother
Knights, give generously to various causes throughout the year, and many benefit from your
kindness. We also twin with a parish in Haiti providing financial support for their community needs.
In the same way the ‘domestic church’ – the family – can reflect that by engaging in charitable and
volunteer projects. What a great witness this would be for the children to see their entire family
participate in these works of charity.
Beginning this month, the Knights of Columbus will launch a yearlong, program to help families
and councils prepare for the 8th World Meeting of Families to be held in Philadelphia, September 2227, 2015. It is titled “Building the Domestic Church: The Family Fully Alive”. As it happens, it
coincides with the upcoming Synod of Bishops who will be meeting this month in Rome to discuss the
family. Since this is a timely topic, let us be open to new ideas and initiatives that can help support
and strengthen our families here in the parish. Sincerely, Fr. David

Brothers,
Here are four questions to ask yourself and even more importantly to discuss with your spouse.
One. If I die today, will my family be able to continue on financially as if I were still alive and working?
Two. If I get sick or injured today and cannot work again, where would the money come from to help
support my family?
Three. If I can no longer take care of myself today and I need assistance from someone else to help
take care of me either at home or in a nursing home, where will I get the money to pay for that care?
Four. If I retire today or in the future, will I have enough money to live on or will I out-live my money?
The Knights of Columbus can provide the solutions to these questions.
