Trunk or Treating 101 - Not sure what Trunk or Treat is all about? Here’s the scoop: Holy Apostles will hold their 4th Annual “Trunk-or-Treat” event on Friday Oct. 31, 6:00-8:00 pm. This event is for all ages and is a great way to celebrate “All Hallow’s Eve.” Historically, it’s the Vigil of All Saints Day, as instituted by Pope Gregory III in the 7th century…. We just celebrate the occasion a little differently in 2014! Parking and decorating starts at 5:30 pm in the parking lot where volunteers will be ushering the cars. Participants (young, old and all in between!) park their car or truck, decorate the trunk or tailgate in a variety of ways and bring treats to give the children. Some are simple… some are very elaborate! There will be a prize for the best overall decoration. From 5:30-7:30pm the Knights of Columbus of Columbus will be serving delicious chili-frito pie, hot dogs & chili dogs from the kitchen for $2. At 6:30pm the parking lot closes for the safety of the children and then the costumed kids begin going from car to car “trunk-or-treating.” But that’s not all! At 7:30 pm the big costume parade begins in the gym. Children and adults show their costumes and a prize is awarded to the best in 3 age categories. While you are at Holy Apostles on the Vigil of All Saint’s Day… visit the columbarium, aglow with luminaries, and say a prayer for the dead. For details call the RE office at 888-1182,x-3022 or 3021.
