I worked concurrently on a number of long-­‐term contracts, including: Project Officer and Communications Officer: City of London Corporation, Department of the Built Environment April 2012 – September 2013; March 2014 -­‐ August 2014 (three days per week) The Department of the Built Environment in the City of London is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the public realm of the famous ‘Square Mile’. Key responsibilities: -­‐ Writing the Aldgate Project Communications Strategy, Aldgate Design Brief and the corporate strategy for the Eastern City Cluster. -­‐ Engaging with stakeholders, Councillors and contractors in workshops and meetings. -­‐ Undertaking administration for the Aldgate Project team, including minutes, reports and finance. Writer and Artist Coordinator: Australia and New Zealand Festival of Literature and Arts, London September 2013 – June 2014 (two – five days per week) The AusNZ Festival showcases the best of Australian and New Zealand literature, music and film over four days in London. Key responsibilities: -­‐ Managing communication with 200 writers, artists, publishers and agents. -­‐ Assisting the Artistic Director with programming; managing the schools’ programme. -­‐ Editing marketing materials and updating the website. Community Engagement Coordinator: Hackney Museum, London April 2012 – February 2013 (contract) I was engaged exclusively for the Martin Richman light installation project by this local Council-­‐run museum in east London. Educational Design Consultant: The-­‐learning-­‐crowd, London January 2012 – August 2014 (Senior Associate, contract) The-­‐learning-­‐crowd is an affiliation of educational design experts offering consultation to schools and local councils. Key responsibilities: -­‐ Assessing the expansion capacity of 20 primary schools in the London Borough of Southwark. -­‐ Representing two schools as Design Champion for the London Borough of Southwark. -­‐ Writing brochures for educational design magazines. Educational Design Consultant: WSP Edunova, London March 2007 – October 2011 WSP Group is a global design, engineering and management consultancy specialising in infrastructure projects. I worked as an educational lead within the Edunova team. Recruitment Consultant: Protocol Education, London March 2004 – December 2004 Protocol Education is one of the largest teacher recruitment agencies in the UK. Key responsibilities: -­‐ Placing international teachers in daily and long-­‐term work contracts. -­‐ Negotiating with new schools to fulfil their supply needs. English Teacher: St Paul’s Catholic School, Milton Keynes January 2003 – December 2003 St Paul’s Catholic School is a co-­‐educational secondary school located in a challenging urban environment. History Teacher: Brisbane Girls Grammar School, Australia January 1999 – December 2002 Brisbane Girls Grammar School is a leading independent girls school in Brisbane, with a reputation for innovation balanced with tradition. Key responsibilities: -­‐ Teaching History and Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) to students from Years 8 to 10. -­‐ Co-­‐ordinating Year 8 SOSE for one year. -­‐ Facilitating a social justice group for Years 8 to 12. 2 Other Professional Experience Agents’ Party Coordinator: Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), London January 2013 – September 2014 (volunteer) The SCBWI is the largest membership organisation for aspiring and published children’s writers in the UK, with over 600 members. I organised and hosted two of the annual Literary Agents’ Parties, in 2013 and 2014. Founder: ‘1000 Books to Read Before You Die’ Book Club, London (meetup.com/1000-­‐books) July 2010 – July 2011 This book club brings west Londoners together to debate and discuss iconic books. The club is now managed by a team of volunteers and has over 150 members. Director: The Conversational, London July 2009 – Dec 2009 The Conversational was a six-­‐month pop up salon designed to get strangers talking about interesting ideas.
