CLOSING SONG CLOSING PRAYER/BENEDICTION ANNOUNCEMENTS The deadline for the November EvAngel Newsletter is tomorrow before the close of business. The Long Range Planning Committee will meet Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM in the library. The Columbia Community Orchestra will perform a free concert on Monday, October 27 at 7:15 PM in the sanctuary. A Men's Kairos Weekend Retreat will be held at Broad River Correctional Institute, October 23-26. It takes much prayer, a large team (inside and outside), detailed planning, help with finances and a lot of cookies. While the weekend retreat is for the 42 participants, all inmates, correctional officers and support staff receive a bag of cookies each day. These bags of cookies are a simple way to show Christ’s love during the weekend. They represent the unconditional love that Christ teaches us. You will have an opportunity to assist us with this endeavor by baking a batch of cookies. Many of the inmates never receive anything from the outside. All of them look forward to the Kairos cookies. A sign up sheet and containers are available in the narthex. Cookies need to be dropped off by noon on Wednesday, October 22. Point of contact is Pastor Day. This year’s Out of Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention will be held on October 26 at 2 PM at Columbia Riverfront Park. If you would like to join the Northeast UMC Team, we would love to have you walk with us! The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 38,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. (and over one million worldwide), the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater. Let us strive to give hope to those who feel desperately hopeless. Join our team at http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=73410. Our goal is $300.00. Please contact Debbie Watford if you have any questions. (dwatford@nexsenpruet.com) The Angel Tree Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 13. There are many areas where assistance is needed to support this ministry. Please visit the church website at www.neumc.com and sign up for an area you can help support. Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program is the only nationwide effort that specifically reaches out to hundreds of thousands of innocent children who carry the heavy burden of their parents’ incarceration throughout the year. At Christmastime, Angel Tree introduces prisoners and their children to Jesus and brings healing and restoration to families destroyed by crime. For more information or questions, please contact Linda Wargel at 786-9992. Grace Happens Here at NEUMC. The Grace small group study group is asking for the help of NEUMC to collect canned and boxed food along with your change during the month of October for God’s Storehouse. We will be collecting any change you can spare for this worthy cause after both services. God's Storehouse is a place for those living in Northeast Columbia to go when they are in need of help. God Storehouse helps the people with food, clothing, etc. Pumpkin Patch Hours Monday - Saturday: 10 AM - 8 PM Sundays: 12 - 8 PM Volunteer in the Patch Visit our website and click on “Volunteer to Work in the Patch” located in the middle of the page. Thanks be to God. SERMON "Follow Me!" (Part Two) Pastor Day INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP HOLY COMMUNION, No. 12 PRAYER OF CONFESSION O holy and merciful God, we confess that we have not always taken upon ourselves the yoke of obedience, nor been willing to seek and to do your perfect will. We have not loved you with all our heart and mind and soul and strength, neither have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. You have called to us in the need of our sisters and brothers, and we have passed unheeding on our way. In the pride of our hearts, and our unwillingness to repent, we have turned away from the cross of Christ, and have grieved your Holy Spirit. (WESLEYAN METHODIST CONFERENCE, ENGLAND, 20TH CENT., ALT.) All offer prayers of confession in silence. May almighty God, who caused light to shine out of darkness, shine in our hearts, cleansing us from all our sins, and restoring us to the light of the knowledge of God's glory, in the face of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. (THE BOOK OF WORSHIP 1944, ALT.) COMMUNION MUSIC Ka-Young Lee, piano (Wine and grape juice are used for communion. Center chalice is grape juice. Name(s) & Ages of Children 60 Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." 61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family." Address, City, State, Zip 62 Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." FAMILY MINISTRY MINUTE How do we care for the health of our families? Our first thoughts will probably center on finances and physical needs. But what about spiritual needs? In Isaiah 59:2 we read, "Your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you." We cannot be healthy families unless we tend to this condition. Be sure you have a plan. Home Phone: Email: How Did You Learn About NEUMC? ─Gerald Watford Director of Family Ministries CURRENT SERMON SERIES Following Christ! Growing Disciples! Changing Lives!
