Dear Martins,
We as a church are in the fifty years anniversary of the great Vatican II council and what a
way to commemorate the same with the preparatory meetings for the Synod on families in
October of 2015. Meanwhile the first outline draft that could direct the church may take
with regards to human relationships and family is in the public domain. Looking at it is itself a great sign as to how the Church under Pope Francis is restoring the ultimate foundation of Christian life, namely the Mercy of God as expressed in the life, ministry and teachings of Jesus. This restoring of Jesus’ mercy as the heart of our Christian life and faith is evident from the intense opposition from prelates and people belonging to the extremist catholic groups. Let us pray for Pope Francis and the other delegates that the church founded on
the Rock of Peter read the signs of times and find ways to restore and rediscover the presence and the Word of Christ at all times.
And for us as a parish as we continue our parish journey Beyond 50 years, let the feast of
St. Martin this year bring us a blessing. More so with the parish play on St. Martin on November 7 and 8th with dinner. Tickets are 4$ for the play only and $15 for both play and
dinner. Kindly make time to be there, to know a little more on St. Martin in his time and
age.
Once we are done with the play the next weekend, we will celebrate the feast of St. Martin
at the 10. 30 AM mass on the November 16. In lieu of this celebration and for facilitating a
wider gathering and participation we will have just one mass on November 16 at 10. 30 AM
as usual.
The next year’s parish festival is scheduled for May 29 thru 31, in the evenings. Make a
note in your calendar for next year!
Post November 16, we need to focus on visioning and planning for the next 25 years, a
good beginning for which would be is to develop a vision and mission statement that would
guide our parish. It is this preparation for a mission statement that I would focus on the
weeks following November 16. More or less our vision is set as Next 25 Years, but it needs
to be grounded for all us. The shared preparation for a new mission statement would, I
hope, would help us in this regard.
In all this let us keep our lives of prayer vibrant, so that with the intercession of our Blessed
Mother and St. Martin de Porres, we will look forward for a future filled with hope.
Peace and Grace, Fr. RajPaul!
