Veteran’s Day Program
Kouts Middle/Senior High School will have its annual Veteran’s Day program again
this year. The program will be on November 11th at 10:00 AM at Kouts Middle/Senior
High School. We would like to invite all local veterans or citizens who are currently
serving in the military. The Veteran’s Day program will take place in the PAR
gymnasium. Veterans should report to the school office or PAR gym between 9:30
and 9:45 that morning. Please RSVP to the school office (phone 766-2231).
61st Music Boosters Ham and Turkey Dinner November
The Music Boosters annual Ham and Turkey Dinner is Saturday, November 1st from 4:00 to
8:00 PM. The funds raised this year will help pay for new equipment as well provide
additional funding for the Kouts Band/Choir trips being planned for next year. The
dinner serves between 1500 and 2000 people every year. This is the 61st annual
dinner. Dine-in and carry-out are available. You can purchase tickets from any
middle school or high school band or choir member. Tickets may also be purchased
in the school office.
Kouts Athletic Hall of Fame
The Kouts High School Athletic Hall of Fame will recognize new inductees during the
upcoming basketball season. Athletes are selected for their contributions to the Kouts
High School Athletics while they were students at Kouts High School. The recipients will
be selected by an anonymous committee. The fourth group of inductees will be
recognized and honored at the home boys’ basketball game against Knox on February
7, 2015. All nominations for this year’s inductees must be received by the athletic
director by November 1, 2014. Nomination forms are available through the Kouts High
School Athletic Department or on the Kouts High School website. Athletes selected to
the Hall of Fame must have been out of high school for at least 10 years.
From the Guidance Counselor
The Indiana Youth Institute has created "Trip to College Alerts" which sends texts to keep students, parents,
and teachers on track for College and Career Planning. These alerts are tailored to the student’s grade in
school. You can receive texts with reminders about test and application deadlines, and helpful tips about
financial aid or alternatives to the traditional college route. To join the Trip to College Alerts, text the word
"grad" plus your high school graduation year (example, seniors text grad2015) to 69979 (standard
messages & data rates apply). You can also find more in-depth college or career planning guidance at
TripToCollege.org.
The week of October 28-31, Kouts School will be recognizing Red Ribbon Week. This week was started in
response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena who had been working to uncover a
multimillion dollar narcotics operation in Mexico. The red ribbon is a symbol of the commitment
by the National Family Partnership to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by
drugs in America. During the week, there will be different activities the students can participate
in, as well as dress-up days. Following are the dress-up days and themes: TUESDAY: Too
Smart to Start (dress “smart” and/or wear glasses, no sunglasses) WEDNESDAY: Love Yourself:
Be Drug Free (wear red), THURSDAY: Stay in the Game: Play Drug Free (sports wear), FRIDAY: I Have
the Power to Be Drug Free (superhero gear).
Porter County Conference Recognizes Fall All-Conference Athletes
Several fall athletes from Kouts High School earned PCC
all-conference recognition this fall. Grant Hamstra and
Jay Heinold received all-conference recognition in cross
country this year. The top 15 runners in the meet earn allconference. Kouts had 9 soccer players selected allconference by the conference soccer coaches. Alex
Sanders, Nate Anweiler, Jake Hamann, and Doug Satoski represented the Mustangs while Miranda
Birmingham, Tiffany Tratar, Gabby Rogers, Gracie Birmingham and Joslyn Hemdal represented the Fillies
on the PCC Girls All-Conference soccer team. Alex Garavalia and Trevor McCormick earned all-PCC
representing the Mustang volleyball team, and Lauren Dowdy and Hannah Maier represented the Fillies
Volleyball Team. At the championship game last Friday night Megan Heinold was awarded the Mental
Attitude award for volleyball from the conference coaches as well. Congratulations to all of these fall
athletes.
Science Club, Science Club, Science Club!
The Kouts High School Science Club will begin their Fall Fundraiser with
Nature’s Vision on Thursday, October 23. Nature’s Vision was selected for
their wide variety of top quality environmentally-themed products and
commitment to customer satisfaction. This brand new catalog features over
150 items to choose from and includes something for everyone. These
fashionable products will help promote environmental awareness at our school and in our community. The
100% preshrunk cotton shirts are available in a wide variety of styles including Organic, Animal Planet, and
Tie Dye tees. Nature’s Vision donates to environmental organizations that are dedicated to protecting the
Rainforest, preserving nature and ensuring a sustainable future for our planet. Sales will continue through
Friday, November 7. You can support our fundraiser by placing an online order as well. Go to
naturesvisionfundraising.com, click on “SHOP NOW” and enter the organization code 48916. We plan to

Caring for Katie
As mentioned last week, Kaitlyn Reasoner, one of our beloved 6 th grade students, is hospitalized at the
University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. We are encouraged by the fact that she is making small
signs of improvement, slowly but surely. We will continue to pray for recovery, rehabilitation, and
encouragement for both Katie and her family. As a show of our community’s support, a prayer service will
be held at Cornerstone Community Church in Kouts on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:00pm. Everyone is
welcome!
We have received a tremendous outpouring in response to the gift card collection for the Reasoner family
which began last week. Gift cards can be dropped off in either office at the school. Thank you to everyone
who has so generously supported this family.
From the Desk of Mr. Stoner
I cannot believe the first nine weeks is over and fall break is here. This year is going by so fast for me. I
have seen and learned much during my first nine weeks as the principal. I have learned most students love
Music Mondays and the trivia challenges that go with them. I have learned that when we focus on an end
goal we will rise to the challenge as a team. I have seen that when we challenge our students academically,
most will rise to the challenge. I have seen that students are open to new challenges like the robotics team,
computer programing, AP Lit twitter chats, collaborating with each other and students from other schools,
and the list goes on. I have seen our students and staff willing to help out current and past students in need.
I have talked with parents that want the very best for their students, whatever that might be. I have seen
what I have already known, and that is Kouts MS/HS is a great place to be every day. Thank you so much
for the support you give to me and the staff every day! Have a great four day weekend and see ya on
Tuesday.

Welcome to Wild About Cheerleading—a Day with the Cheerleaders!
Dear Parents and Campers,
This year’s KHS Cheerleaders are excited to be hosting a Mini Cheer Camp. Grades first through fifth are all invited
to participate in this event. The camp will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 9:00-12:00 in the balcony of
the new gym. Cost for this event will be $25 per child. While at camp, the girls will learn proper stretching technique
and cheerleading skills such as jumping and stunting. In addition, they will learn several cheers which they will
perform at a ball game. Finally, they will learn valuable teamwork skills as well. Each girl will receive a t-shirt and
bow to commemorate the day. The campers will also have a chance to win prizes, play games, and have fun!
Campers will need to be dressed in comfortable clothes and shoes because camp will be a lot of work, too! In
addition, girls should wear their hair tied back and should refrain from wearing jewelry.
In addition to the fun-filled camp day, mini camp participants will actually get to be a part of a real ball game. They will
get to sit in the Pep Block and also perform their cheers during the junior varsity half time Kouts game on November
15. Mini camp cheerleaders will be expected to wear their commemorative t-shirts and bows, black shorts, and tennis
shoes to the game. Hair again should be pulled back, and no jewelry should be worn.
The attached form needs to be completed and returned to the school office or Mrs. Flanigan by October 23. No late
forms will be accepted. Checks should be made out to Kouts High School.
The KHS Cheerleaders are looking forward to spending this exciting day with everyone!

Caring for Katie
Recently our community has been saddened by the news
of one of our beloved 6th grade students, Kaitlyn
Reasoner, being hospitalized at the University of Chicago
with a serious illness.
Her cheerful and outgoing
personality has been sorely missed by everyone at Kouts
School. Many people have inquired with us about how
they can help the Reasoner family. Obviously, the first
and most important way you can make a difference is by
lifting up Katie in prayer. A community-wide prayer
service will be held at Cornerstone Community Church in
Kouts on Tuesday, October 28, at 7:00 PM.
Of course, we want to do something tangible for the
family, as well. While we have several ideas in mind for the
near future, one thing we can do now is a gift card
collection. Gas cards, restaurant cards, iTunes cards
(Katie loves music), and grocery cards are all items that
would be useful both now and later. You can drop off
gift cards in the elementary or high school office. Thank
you in advance for showing your love and support to this
family!
Title I/Specials Teachers to Receive
Box Top Dollars
Since our specials teachers and Title I teacher do not
have a homeroom, yet teach all or many of our KES
students, they will benefit from the November and
February BT collections. During these two months, 10%
of the overall collection total will be divvied up between
the four teachers to supplement their classroom needs.
“Super Strides Students” to Be Recognized
Beginning next week, one student will be selected to be
recognized as a “Super Strides Student.”
This student
will have shown significant improvement in an area such
as an academic subject (math, reading, English, etc.),
artistic/athletic/musical ability, work ethic, friendship,
leadership, participation, etc. The selected student will
host the traveling trophy for the week, receive a
certificate, and be presented with a custom pin in
recognition of the achievement.
Fall Break to Be Observed
The student will also
have his/her picture in the weekly newsletter. We look
forward
There will be no school on Friday, October 24, and
Monday, October 27. Enjoy your Fall Break!
