China 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) at Isa Town Sports
City in Riffa for their fifth Asian Championship trophy and the first since 2008.
Playmaker Hamid Hamoodi led Iran to a deserving victory, setting up crucial spikes for Sahand Allah Verdian, Akbar Valaei and skipper Mohammadjavad Manavinezhad, who scored most of the team
points.
China and Iran headed into the final in high spirits
after clinching hard-fought 3-1 semi-final victories
over South Korea and hosts Bahrain on Friday.
China, coached by Genyin Ju, was heavily relying
on key players Haxiang Du and Zhejia Zhang. But
there efforts were just not good enough.
Meanwhile, hosts Bahrain settled for fourth place
after losing their bronze medal match to six-time
Asian Wnder-20 Champions South Korea earlier in
the day - 20-25, 14-25, 22-25.
It was an impressive finish for Bahrain, the dark
horses of the tournament, who qualified for the 2015
Under-20 World Cup to be held in Mexico by entering the semi-final here.
Bahrain coach Reda Ali started yesterday’s game
with a full-strength squad.
Mohammed Saleh Anan was again in a good
form. The 19-year-old spiker scored most of Bahrain’s points and also made several blocks to restrict
the Koreans.
He was well assisted by skipper Mahmood Abdulwahed, Yousef Ebrahim, Sayed Kadhim, Isa Ebrahim, playmaker Abdulrahman Al Mutawa and libero
Mohammed Hasan.
However, the Koreans were too strong for Bahrain, thanks to a well-organised teamwork, led by

THE quarter-final slots are fast

Spartans and Central Café became
the latest teams to make the grade with
handsome victories over Havelock and
SuperKings CC respectively.
Batting first, Spartans put on an impressive 62 runs for four wickets in their six
overs with Fayas top scoring with a fine
25.
In reply, Havelock lost three wickets in
the first over and did not recover from that
and were eventually bowled out for 16 runs
in 4.4 overs. Fayas was adjudged man-ofthe-match.
Central Cafe followed suit with an
equally impressive victory as they successfully chased a target of 54 losing two
wickets and with two balls to spare. Suraj
(21*) and Vassant (14) got the chase to a
flying start adding 36 runs for the opening
wicket.
Earlier, Prashant top scored with 20 runs
as SuperKings put on 54 runs on the board
for loss three wickets in their six overs.
Suraj was declared man-of-the-match.
The four remaining pre-quarter-final
matches are between Shaheen Group and
