The tournament is being held under the patronage of His Majesty at his private golf course in Safriya. More than 80 golfers enjoyed superb conditions on the premium nine-hole grass golf course yesterday. Avis 2 were second best with 57 while JP Morgan finished third on 57.4. Al Hawaj 3 (58.3) and HSBC (61.2) took the next two positions. In the Premiership, Lexus 1 finished on top with 56.2 points and they were followed in second and third places by RSCI (57.4) and AMH 3 (57.9) re- spectively. Lexus 2 (60.7), RGC (60.8), Al Osra 2 (60.9), Independent 5 (62.3), AER Rianta 2 (62.4), Al Osra 1 (63.2), AER Rianta 1 (63.4), Diplomat (64) and Independent 4 (69.5) finished in that order. Independent Ministry of Interior 3 and Contax Partners, however, stay on top in the championship and premiership leaderboards with 51.3 and 55.3 points respectively. Overall leaderboard at the end of the second day is as follows: Championship: 1 Independent Ministry of Interior 3 (51.3); Safriya 1 (53.8), 3 Bahrain Confidential (54.6). UAE and Saudi Arabia crowned champions THE UAE and Saudi Arabia were last night crowned champions of their respective categories in the GCC Youth Tennis Championship, which concluded at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town following the final evening of matches. The Emiratis won the title in the under-16 division, while the Saudis claimed the crown in the under-12 competition. Five of the six GCC countries took part in the event – UAE, Saudi, Oman, Kuwait and hosts Bahrain. The competition was held at the BTF all this past week.t In the under-16 competition, the UAE claimed first place overall after finishing the league-type event with eight points from an unbeaten record. They won all four of their match-ups against their Gulf rivals and were the class of the age-group. Amongst the top players for the Emiratis were Fahad Al Janahi, Faris Al Janahi and Abdulla Ali, among others. Finishing in second place and taking the silver medals were Oman with seven points. Their only loss of the competition came against the Emiratis. 29 Danube too strong for Warriors DANUBE Home defeated Lankan Warriors by 20 runs in the BFC Corporate Professional League organised by Cricket Bahrain Association and supported by Cebarco. Batting first, Danube posted 135 runs with Atif Khan contributing 64. For Lankan Warriors, Manju claimed four wickets. In reply, Lankan Warriors were all out for 115 runs. Aslam claimed four wickets for Danube. BCC defeated ABM Climax by 25 runs in the Professional League Cup. Batting first, BCC posted 229 runs. Ashraf Baig top scored with 50 and Anasim Khan made 38. For ABM Climax, Yousuf Butt claimed three wickets. In reply, ABM Climax n Iqbal could only manage 204 runs. Abdul Jabbar top socred with 46 runs and Usman Izzat made 44. Right, members of the GCC committee at their meeting yesterday Kuwait claimed third and the bronze medals with six points, Saudi were fourth with five points, and Bahrain finished in fifth and last place with four points. In the under-12 class, the Saudis were the team to beat and they too finished their campaign unscathed. They finished with a maximum of six points from their three match-ups. They relied on their talented young line-up that included Hussain Al Maraj, Saud Agbani, Abdulla Abdulla and Qassim Al Obaidan, to name a few of their team members. Kuwait were the silver medallists with five points, and the UAE the bronze winners with four points. Home team Bahrain were once again last in the group, which did not feature a team from Oman. The under-16 Bahrainis were coached by former national team star Essam Abdula’al, while taking charge for the under-12 nationals was Antonio Catito. The winners of each division were presented their respective trophies last night in an awarding ceremony that followed all the action. BTF president Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa was among those on hand to present the accolades, along with other BTF and GCC tennis officials. Meanwhile, a meeting of members of the GCC tennis committee was held yesterday morning and a number of important issues were discussed. Among them included the under-10 GCC championship to be held in Qatar at a to-be-determined date. Also on the cards was the organisation of the Under-18 and Undre-14 Doubles and Singles Championship to be held in Kuwait in January next year, plus the Under-18 and Under-14 Teams Championship to take place in Saudi Arabia in March. ARABCO booked a berth in the final of the KCA-Zayani Motors International Volleyball Tournament 2014, powered by Lulu and UAE Exchange. Arabco beat Ruby KCA in a five set thriller 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-11. Arabco take on Indian Club in the final. n Bahrain beat Oman BAHRAIN secured a Gulf Top Six place yesterday with a fine 33-12 win over Oman in Muscat. First-half tries for Adam Wallace and Rich Muncaster and further scores for Shane Stapleton, Dave Howie and Tom Ham after the break,along with Wallace’s four conversions, gave Bahrain a deserving victory.
