Bahrain Grand Prix – Race No. 1!
Formula 1’s historic 60th anniversary season will kick off
right here in Bahrain on the 12th, 13th and 14th of March,
with the first F1 race of the season set to take place
alongside a host of support activities and entertainment.
This year heralds some of the most significant rule
changes ever seen in the championship’s history. The
introduction of the refueling ban has seen all Formula 1
cars fitted with larger fuel tanks to make up for the lack of
opportunities to fill up during the race. The change has
had an impact on the car design, as the chassis have
become longer to accommodate for the substantial
increase in weight, resulting in a very different car when
compared to last year’s season.
Racing legend Michael Schumacher will be returning to
Formula 1 under the grey and black colors of Mercedes
GP. While many claim the 7 time World Champion will be
able to pick up where he left off 3 seasons ago, others
feel that he will have a hard time competing in a championship which is very different to the one he left in 2006. Felipe Massa,
Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and many other competitors will be hungry to claim victory by triumphing
over Schumacher’s gray and black Mercedes GP Formula 1 car during the season opener.
‘Race Number One’ will also see four brand new teams in the form of Virgin Racing F1 Team, Campos Meta 1, US F1 and
Lotus Racing, increasing the starting grid to a phenomenal 26 cars – the most seen on track in over 15 years! With
competitors such as Sebastian Buemi, Pedro De La Rosa, Lucas Di Grassi and Timo Glock leading these hungry new teams,
it remains to be seen who will emerge on top at the end of the first round of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship!
On the sidelines of the main event will be concerts by international artists Sean Kingston, Flo Rida and renowned Arab singer
Hussain Al Jasmi. Al Jasmi’s concert is on Thursday 11th March, 1 day prior to the race, at the BIC concert area, located at
the Circuit’s facilities. All fans with a 3-day ticket to the 2010 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will be able to enjoy the
concert free of charge. Fans will also be able to enjoy Bob Marley tribute band ‘Legend,’ which will be performing 4 times a
day on stage 1 throughout the three day race. The Cash Cows will also be performing their own jazzy version of some of the
best hits heard this year as they give their own
unique take on guitar and double bass. These acts
will be joined by Europe’s number one hip hop
dance crew, the B-Boy Champions and UK dance
group, Plague, as well as Bahrain’s own ‘The
Magnetics.’
In addition to the main event there are also several
support races lined up, including the Bahrain based
Chevrolet Supercars Middle East Championship, in
which some of the region’s most up and coming
drivers will take to the track to compete in the 6th
round of this season. This race will see Bahraini
racing prodigy Raed Raffii in action, one of the
youngest drivers on the regional racing circuit.
Meanwhile, the opening round of the Porsche Mobil
1 Supercup Championship will take place at the Gulf
Air Bahrain Grand Prix. The series sees identical
Porsche 911 Cup Cars compete, making driver skill and talent a big decider. Also, the GP2 Asia Series will be holding the
fourth and final round of its 2009-2010 season, with many of the future stars of single-seater racing showcasing their talents
on the biggest stage.
Tickets to the 2010 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix are available at the Bahrain International Circuit’s Welcome Centre, at the BIC
Ticket Stands located at Seef Mall and Bahrain City Centre, via the BIC call Centre (contactable on +973 17450000), or by
