Here we are with November just around the
corner! You have probably noticed that I
always make some mention of the local
weather patterns in my monthly letter. This
is because I have learned over the years
just how ‘weather dependent’ the retail
bakery business is. This year the fall season has been cooler and rainier
than years past. From my perspective, this is GOOD for business. My
dad used to tell me that baker’s ‘pray for rain’, which for a long time I
never really understood. Today I have recognized that when we have
dreary, cool, rainy days, we see an uptick in our daily customer counts. I
believe what we offer consumers is an affordable ‘pick-me-up’ in the form
of a tender fresh-baked danish, an indulgent donut, an afternoon brownie
or just a hot cup of coffee. With all of the unrest we see in the world
today, it is so nice to know that we work each day to offer a small reprieve
from all of the doom and gloom we are bombarded with.
I wish all of you a prosperous Halloween and Thanksgiving holiday
season in your businesses as well as with your families.

GOLF OUTING
SPECIAL THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED BY SPONSORING:
We had a beautiful day for the golf outing At beautiful Aston
Oaks on Monday Sept. 29th. We had 59 golfers and Mike
VanFleet and Shaan Carlson-Woo joined the two groups that
only had 3 golfers and putted with their foursomes. They both
said they had a lot of fun along with all the other golfers. The
dinner was the best we had so far at the golf outing. Tom and
Robin did a great job in organizing this event. We all want to
thank you both for all the hard work. We made $2,760.27 profit
for scholarships for students at Midwest Culinary Institute.
The winning team was 15 under
John Behimer
Mike Maurine
Laure Skuzacek
Jim Pater
Longest Drive #13 men Dan Shuler
Closet to the Pin #17 men John Behimer
Unfortunately there were only 2 women and Laure and JoAnn did
not qualify.
Thank you all for coming and participating in
golf or sponsoring a hole, drinks, or dinner.

HONORING MARY ANN
Although MaryAnn will
always be around to
help our association
she is officially retired
from secretary of
GCRBA. So at the
November meeting we
would like to HONOR
MaryAnn as a Retiree!
The GCRBA is a solid
association and known
as such across the United States baking world because of
MaryAnn keeping us all working together. At this meeting
we are asking everyone to bring MaryAnn a card or a little
note from you that she can read so she knows how much
we appreciate her hard work. Bertie Schmidt will be
talking about MaryAnn and all her years devoted to the
bakers and the association. We hope everyone will come
to honor MaryAnn as a new Retiree!

CARING IS SHARING
“BUY A KIT…HELP A
KID… NO KIDDING”
Is the catchy saying that Tom Davis
from Regina Bakery came up with
the idea of selling Gingerbread
Cookies, and giving a portion of the
sale to a Children’s Charity.
This has certainly been a successful
endeavor, over the 20 years the
bakeries have been doing this, each
year the two charities in Cincinnati
that benefit from this contribution Kindervelt and Fernside contact GCRBA to see if this will
continue, and then they advertise for us. Fliers will be given out at the Novenber 4th Meeting.
Think about signing up to sell Gingerbread Cookies in your bakery this year, get in the spirit.
Buy A Kid . . . Help A Kid . . . No Kidding!
