UCU manages a rich, vibrant and engaging campus environment for the benefit of the UC Community. Position Purpose The CFO is responsible for the effective, ongoing management of all UCU commercial activities and corporate functions, and for providing advice to the CEO on commercial matters and strategic direction. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the Unions’ financial performance to maximize the efficiency of operations, while effectively balancing financial and service objectives. Analyse and investigate variations in the Union’s performance, provide detailed analysis and interpretation of financial statements and results, and ongoing reporting to the CEO. Provide assistance to the CEO in the development and control of financial strategies and assist the CEO with the preparation of the Union’s strategic plan. Evaluate the Union’s performance and efficiency and recommend to the CEO, relevant courses of action. Set budgets and reporting guidelines, coordinate the development of the annual budget for the Union, monitor expenditure and provide regular reports on achievement of budget targets. Prepare monthly financial and management reports. Manage corporate services including office management, payroll and administration functions undertaken within central office Undertake other duties appropriate to the classification as requested. Selection Criteria Tertiary qualifications in finance, business and/or management, or a relevant professional field and/or extensive relevant practical experience. Highly developed senior-level business and management skills, including knowledge of financial and administrative policies and their interrelations. High level planning, negotiating, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills. Strong leadership skills, and demonstrated effective organisational and team skills, and a proven ability to innovate and implement change. Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to compile and deliver complex financial reports. 2 POSITION DESCRIPTION Chief Financial Officer Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, equity and workplace health and safety principles. A can-do attitude and commitment to the values and purpose of the UCU. Desirable Selection Criteria Membership of an accounting or financial professional association. Proven experience managing culture change. Knowledge of the higher education sector. Exposure to the retailing and food industries. 3
