Welcome!
We are happy to have you with us today. If you are a guest, please introduce yourself and ask
an usher for a Welcome Packet. We welcome children and encourage you to worship together
as a family often. Families with small children might want to consider sitting in the front pews
to better enable their children to see and participate in the worship service. "Busy Bags" that
contain quiet activities for restless children are located at the rear of the church and you are
welcome to borrow one if needed. If your child needs a diaper change, to be fed or comforted
during worship, please ask an usher to direct you to the infant area just beyond the narthex.
A Word from Pastor
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my
disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jesus knew God, Jesus
was, and is, God. God can never do something false and is incapable of deceit. What God says
simply is. That means what He says is always the truth. In Jesus prayer in the 17th chapter of
the Gospel of John He states this quite clearly. He says, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word
is truth.” It was this standard that set the tone for Reformation in the Church. There were
those who carried the call for reformation too far, swerving once again themselves from God’s
true word, as they followed an emotional path. A quick computer search within the Gospel
according to John reveals that Jesus talked about truth 21 times in that Gospel. Not once did
He say that our salvation depends on our feelings. True reformation is about truth. That is why
the cry of the reformers was “Sola Scriptura,” Scripture alone. It is in His revealed Word that
God shows us what is true. It is in His Law God shows us that we are truly sinners. It is in His
Gospel that God shows us that we are truly redeemed by Jesus perfect life and sacrificial
death. In this truth we are free indeed.

Bible passages that remind us that we reap what we sow. Likewise, what God puts into us
(His own love, mercy, kindness, and generosity) – flows back out of us. For it all starts with
His self-giving!

Since the days of the Apostles the churches Communion practice has remained constant. It
follows I Corinthians 10 and 11, where the Apostle Paul warns the Church to know the true
Body and Blood of Christ is in and with the Bread and Wine. St. Paul warns, “Whoever,
therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty
concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of
the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body
eats and drinks judgment on himself.” Since we want no one harmed by the strong body and
blood of Jesus, we ask if you have not been instructed and received into membership in the
Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, please talk to our Pastor or elder before communing.* We do
not ask this out of a spirit of superiority, or in order to be mean, but out of care and concern for
our brothers and sisters.* Elders will be at the rear of the church and wearing an "Elder" badge.

The lesson for this week is from Genesis 18:1-19:29 Abraham’s Visitors from Heaven. God
came to Abraham with the promise of a son, at the age of 100. With God all things are
possible! That in my sin I doubt God’s word and promises. As God’s child, I have nothing to
fear because God is faithful and His word is true. He has kept His promise to send a Savior, His
Son Jesus, and through Him, He gives me the joy of His salvation.

PULL TAB COMPETITION (GO BLUE!)- bring in yours pull tabs by November 23rd!
Thanks to everyone who has been collecting pull tabs from pop and beer cans. Now we have a
special request. The Ronald McDonald House in Ann Arbor (where we take the pull tabs) and
the Ronald McDonald House in Columbus, Ohio, are having a competition to see who can
collect the most pull tabs by the time of the Michigan-Ohio State game. We can't have Ohio
beat Michigan, so here's a special request to save those pull tabs and bring them to the
container in the hallway. Pull tabs from pop, beer, V-8, soup, fruit, or anything else counts!
The container will be emptied weekly, and we'll keep you informed of how many we have
collected. The families who are able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House thank you!

REMINDER!
We have had some issues recently with lights being left on in the building and doors left
unlocked or open. If you are in the building – especially at night – please be sure to turn off
lights and lock doors when you leave.
If you are not sure about setting or turning off the alarm please ask someone to help
you. We have had several issues recently and the Farmington Hills Police Department now
issues a service fee for every false alarm. Thank you!!

The annual St. Paul’s Craft Bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 15th, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
There are still tables available - table rental is $25. Set-up will be Friday, from 6-9 p.m.

Women’s League table at the Craft Bazaar. Your donations will be gratefully accepted!
Woman of the Year: Congratulations to this year’s nominees for St. Paul’s Woman of
the Year: Heather Aumann, Dawn Kivimaki, and Melissa Mattson. These three women have
consistently worked to support, promote and lift up the congregation and the community we
serve. A vote will be cast at the next Women’s League meeting on November 18th. The 2015
Women of the Year will be honored at a church service in December.
November Women’s League Meeting: Our next meeting is November 18th. Join us for
a great meeting focusing on the Promise of Peace! Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God,
which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

will teach us how to make a fabulous burlap wreath. An example is hanging on the Women’s

ST. PAUL’S PRESCHOOL NEWS
St. Paul’s Day Care, Preschool and Young Fives still have some availability for the
2014-15 school year! Day Care is available from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday –
Friday, and we offer Preschool for 3 and 4 year olds as well as a Young Fives
program for children that will be 5 years old but are not ready for Kindergarten. Check it out!
P. B. and J. (Parents, Babies and Jesus) is for 6 months through preschool aged children
and their parent or guardian. We will have Jesus Time with Music, Snack Time, Project and
Play Time. The next sessions will be November 19 and December 17. Please join Mrs. Karen
Roedel for this discovery time. The cost is just $5 per family to cover the snack and project.

NEWS FROM YOUR SCHOOL, CONCORDIA!
CLASSROOM NOTES from Mr. Martin Roedel (6th Grade Teacher and Co-Athletic Director)
(Each week a different teacher makes a report.)
It is hard to believe, but the first quarter of the school year is over already! Next week
we will have Parent-Teacher Conferences and hand out report cards. The science students in
grades 6-8 did an excellent job on their seed, tree leaves, and insect projects. They are on
display in the hallway at South until the P-T conferences. Come see their creative displays and
get ideas for future years. In science we have learned about various environments throughout
the world. Now we are studying aquatic environments.
In religion we have learned about the Judges Gideon, Deborah, Ehud, and Samson. We
learned about Samuel, and now are learning about Israel’s first 3 Kings!
In social studies we are learning about the geography, people, cultures, and history of
the U.S. and Canada.
Lately in math, we are learning how to multiply, add, subtract, and simplify fractions.
Great concepts to learn!
Next week in our sports program we will be starting basketball and cheerleading practice.
Mrs. Beth Lange will be coaching cheerleading. Mrs. Kris Bieniewicz will coach the varsity and I
will coach the junior varsity team.
As the leaves fall and it gets colder, it will be time to get ready for our week at Camp
Rotary and Outdoor Education for grades 5 and 6. It will be Feb. 2-6. Grades 5-8 can sell
Racine Danish Kringles starting Nov. 15th to raise money for their Camp Rotary and
Washington D.C. trips. Go Knights!
CHRISTMAS GREENS AND POINSETTIAS SALE
Students in Grades 5-8 will be selling Christmas Greens and Poinsettias through November 11.
Proceeds go to help pay for their class trips. For Grades 5-6 it is their Outdoor Education Week
in February and for Grades 7-8 it is their trip to Washington, D.C. Order forms are also
available at each campus. Orders must be received by November 11. Items will be delivered
on November 25.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER
Our Bible study and worship are not ends in themselves, but God’s plan to sustain faith and
the obedient life. Grace and knowledge are gifts of God to the believer through His Word.
The Word is God’s food to make us spiritually strong as we serve Him by serving others. We
grow only as we are filled with God’s grace and the knowledge of Jesus. This is the source of
our power to get God’s work done. The way God gives His rich grace is through the Word and
worship in which we hear Him speaking to us.
SEE A SHOW AND SUPPORT A CAUSE!
Lutheran High School Westland presents The Magician’s Nephew and The Lion, the Witch and
the Wardrobe, a show for the whole family. These two adaptations of C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of
Narnia will be performed on Friday, November 7th and Saturday, November 8th at 7:00. In
addition to the performance, the Thespian Troupe is collecting coats for One Warm Coat. Bring
in a coat, new or used, and we will donate it after it appears on our stage. Drop the coats off in
the school office or bring them prior to the performance; our goal is to have the largest
wardrobe possible! Let’s see how big we can make it, and, more importantly, how many
people we can keep warm this winter. Tickets are $5. Children not yet in elementary school
are free. LHWL students are free.
