… THE APPROACH TO GOD…
Prelude
Gathering
Think about His love, think about his goodness,
Think about His grace that's bro't us through.
For as high as the heavens above,
So great is the measure of our Father's love.
Great is the measure of our Father's love.
W. Harrah
Prayer/Call to Worship
from Psalm 99
The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let
the earth quake.
The Lord is great in Zion, he is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise
your great and awesome name. Holy is he!
Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice
and righteousness in Jacob.
Extol the Lord our God; worship at his footstool. Holy is he!
Grace, mercy and peace be yours in abundance, from God our Father and Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Unison Prayer of Confession
Holy God, we confess the times we have chosen to live for ourselves, and
for the gratification of our own wishes and desires. We can become so immersed
in this world's ways that our sense of calling as disciples is diminished. for this,
and for so much more, Lord, we ask your forgiveness.
Take our lukewarm hearts, and set them afire for Jesus Christ. Bring us to
true repentance, and lead us in the way of our Savior, in whose name we
pray...(time of silent prayer)
Change my heart, O God, make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God, may I be like you.
You are the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me, this is what I pray.
Change my heart, O God, make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God, may I be like you.

…OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S WORD…
*Faith Affirmation
from Our Song of Hope
Christ elects His church.
to proclaim His Word and celebrate the sacraments,
to worship His name,
and to live as His disciples.
He creates His community
to be a place of prayer,
to provide rest for the weary
and to lead people to share in service.
Come, Lord Jesus:
We are open to your Spirit.
We await your full presence.
Our world finds rest in you alone.
Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine
is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9
New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
4
Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD alone.[a] 5 You shall love the LORD your
God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. 6 Keep these
words that I am commanding you today in your heart. 7 Recite them to your children and
talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and
when you rise. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem[b] on your
forehead, 9 and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Matthew 22:34-40
New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
The Greatest Commandment
34
When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered
together, 35 and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher,
which commandment in the law is the greatest?” 37 He said to him, “‘You shall love the
Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is
the greatest and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your
neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets
