At the points marked “*” those who are able are invited to stand GATHERING PRELUDE: “I Wonder as I Wander” Huron Carol An image from First United Church: “I think John Lennon had a good thing going with the song Imagine. I think imagination is what we need. I like to look up at the stars and imagine God looking back down at me and saying “Howdy Joe!” Joe laughs, “Of course the Creator has more to do than talk to me. I imagine the Creator is pretty busy with all the crazy in this world. He has to worry about poor people, earthquakes and war.” Joe’s friend, Brenda, taps him on the shoulder. “Joe, I think God would like to have a consult with you. Your’re a smart thinkin’ guy. You matter.” Joe responds, “One thing I know for sure, we all matter.” *CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. People: And also with you. Leader: Today we worship God with the focus on Christ’s Peace. People: We seek the Holy Spirit to prepare our hearts that we may welcome anew Jesus the Christ, God incarnate. Lighting the Advent Candle 1st Voice: “I am sending a messenger, to prepare the way before me…. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight.” (Malachi 3:1-4) 2nd Voice: Come Lord Jesus with your Truth and Peace. 1st Voice: The light of this candle represents all of our faithful voices speaking of true peace and reconciliation, possibility and prayer. All: This candle also represents our gratitude for Peace; the glorious, vivid shining Peace of God. Thank you God. (Vs 1 & 2) VU 371 SHARING THE GIFTS OF GOD GATHERING OF THE CHILDREN: Today we add the candle of Peace GREETINGS AND WELCOME TO THE LIFE AND WORK OF OUR CHURCH RECEIVING AND PRESENTATION OF THE OFFERING CHOIR OFFERING: Prepare Your Heart by Hank Beebe OFFERTORY PRAYER: God of promise, You who cause the branch of Peace to bud and flower; we offer you the fruit of our labour and the sacrifice of our hearts. May what we do bring reassurance to those seeking evidence of Your goodness. Use us and our gifts as signs of what deliverance can mean, we ask it in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord and our Saviour. Amen.
