Local S6 Leadership Connection Proudly Serving Our Members Friday, November 7, 2014 BENEFITS ALERT Annual enrollment for Healthcare, Vision, and Supplemental Life insurance is right around the corner. November 19, 2014 through December 5, 2014, are the approximate dates of the enrollment period. This is the time for you to add or drop dependents, change coverage options, add or drop supplemental vision (VSP), increase supplemental life insurance and get into the flexible spending account. If you have questions please call the Local S6 Benefits Committee at 443-5533 or x3951 from an inside yard phone. Please make sure your address and phone number is correct and updated with Bath Iron Works and Local S6 to ensure you get your mail and can be contacted if necessary. The following financial education classes are being offered: - Tax Savings & Reminders, November 12, 2014, 11:30 -12:00, MSC Shipway Conference Room. Lunch will be provided and again at 3:45 - 5:30 pm, Classroom 2 EDC. Spouses are welcome. - Making Sure You’re Ready for Retirement, December 3, 2014, 3:45 - 5:30 pm, CROF Function Room. - Retirement Plan Basics, December 18, 2014, 3:45 - 5:30 pm, EDC Classroom 3. Spouses are welcome. GRIEVANCE BACKLOG Grievance traffic has been on the rise. After working through a huge backlog of arbitrations, we have seen a breakdown in communications and a return to labor relations experiments. We are working to get back to the basics and may engage a mediator to work out some of the petty process issues that have bogged us down. DECKHOUSE MOVE The deckhouse is scheduled to be moved on Friday, November 14th. The Company will be offering Code 10’s on that date for those of you who are on H603. If this is something you are interested in please sign up. The Union is making attempts to work through this issue with management. GOVERNOR LEPAGE RE-ELECTED The Elections are over (thankfully) and Paul LePage has been re-elected. For any member who voted for him, we request you send him a letter, email or phone call and let him know that right-to-work is not the answer to Maine’s economic issues. There is no doubt he will be pursuing this legislation and a great deal of Union resources and members’ time will be required to combat this. Make no mistake, the rightto-freeload legislation is a frontal attack on middle class wages and an attempt by big business to reduce pensions, wages and benefits. Send him a message that you are Union and this is bad legislation.
