We pray for fine weather! Class 5 is competing in the Steiner Olympics at Mt Somers this
week, Class 3 is on their first camp ever at the Henderson’s farm camp in Scargill, Class 4
is about to perform the terrors of a Nordic battle between good and evil (their class play),
Class 7 has returned triumphant from their last Lower School camp, Class 8 is in the midst
of a drama mainlesson, Class 9 are doing physics…thank goodness Classes 1,2 and 3 and
kinder are holding the school together! Class 10 is off on exam leave and of course we
won’t see the senior students until the pageant.
It’s a very full time of the year and while we are rushing to get things beautifully
completed for 2014 and preparing for 2015, it’s also time to think and thank teachers,
students, Boards and Proprietors and support staff for the events of the year. If you have
anyone you’d like to acknowledge please write to Jennie over the next weeks to put it in
the newsletter. Thanks are really neat to give and neat to receive as gifts to enhance our
school.
Christmas celebrations are around the corner with only four school weeks to go. Book in
to experience the traditional Shepherds Play performed by the teachers on Thursday Dec
4th in the hall, Monday Dec 8th for the wonderful pageant, Class 12 project presentations
from Dec 2nd to Dec 4th in the music room, and come to see the farewell of Class 12 on
their last day of schooling on Wednesday Dec 10th...using some mysterious form of
transport. There is also the graduation ceremony for Class 12 on Tuesday evening, Dec 9th.
The FAIR profit is approximately $25,000. A great outcome. Thanks again to everyone. The
Community Association will meet with the CPG and decide on priorities for the allocation.
As usual there will be a strong component of the raffle and fair that will go to teacher
aides to support our tamariki.
Did you know that we are hitting pre quake enrolments in the kindergarten again? If
children are not enrolled by 1 year old, there’s a long waiting list in every kinder age group.
So tell your friends to head along to a special character talk within months of giving birth
as it’s the only way to ensure a place in our school! The Lower School is basically full again
– there are some spaces in Upper School available…but it’s a great trend to be on again.
Our dear Daryl Manson has decided to leave us at the end of the year and pursue dreams
in other worlds! Daryl has been a long time parent with us and most recently been a
fabulous ORRS teacher for four years. We thank you so much Daryl for your dedication to
our students, now in Class 4, for the love and care you have poured upon them.
We are therefore looking for a registered teacher who has special education experience
for a 5 hour teaching position and approximately 15 hours of teacher aide work. This will
be advertised in the Press, but if you know of anyone interested, please ring the office.
You may have heard mention on the radio of the increased stress senior students are
under in high schools throughout the country. A number of principals are commenting on
higher levels of anxiety than ever in students and were concerned about the constant
stress of assessment. A number were postulating the scaling down of level 1 NCEA. We
chose to do this in class 10 except for English and Maths as they were compulsory for
entry into level 2 and 3. NCEA exams this week for our students are Biology, Maths,
English, Calculus, Physics, Spanish and Art History. Our best wishes to all the students!
