Holiday Fitness – Ho, Ho… Shake Your
Tail Feathers
Oh My Goodness!
November 12-18
by Jerry Rose, Certified Personal Trainer
From Thanksgiving to New Year’s, some
individuals may put on as much seven pounds,
while the average person gains only 1-2.
However, even that weight can add up to 20
pounds over a decade (Science Daily, 2006).
Cold temperatures, shorter days, travel
and parties can make maintaining a fitness
program difficult. But staying active during the
holidays is easier than you might think.
You’ll leave the workout refreshed, energized
and proud of yourself.
Our Holiday FitExpress Class is designed
to assist members during the holidays by
providing both consistency and accountability.
It’s a three-month fitness program (December
1–February 20) designed by a Certified
Personal Trainer. You get 36 small group
training sessions, a fitness and nutrition
journal, and remarkable results for less than
$14 per class. You’ll build total-body strength,
enhance cardiovascular endurance, sculpt
muscles, blast fat and improve overall health.
After all, who wants a round belly that shakes
like a bowl full of jelly? Contact your Personal
Training Manager for more information or to
reserve your spot (sorry, no drop-ins).
1. Consistency. During the holidays, make
a conscious decision to exercise 3 times a
week for an hour. The 2008 Physical Activity
Guidelines for Americans recommends at
least 2 ½ hours of moderate-intensity aerobic
activity and 2 sessions of resistance training
per week. A 60-minute, regularly scheduled
group fitness class is a great way to meet
these minimums.

2. Accountability. Find a friend who is looking 25). Even Slight Holiday Weight Gain Can Set Stage

trainer. If you know your friend is counting on September 23, 2014
you, or you’ve scheduled time with a trainer,
you will be more likely to get off that couch.

Personal Training:
The holidays are quickly approaching
and many of us are trying to stave off
the results of all the holiday parties. The
best way is to track your progress using
body composition and circumference
measurements. The personal training
department can help you by taking the
measurements as well as setting up a
plan for you to improve the way you look
and feel!
Thanksgiving Thank You Social

As a thank you to all of our personal
training clients, the Personal Training
Department will be hosting a
Thanksgiving Thank you Social. This is
also a great chance to meet the PT staff
if you are interested in starting a training
regimen in the next few weeks!
Pilates:
Our dedicated Pilates studio features a
full line of STOTT PILATES® equipment
where you’ll find 10 Reformers
(including the revolutionary V2 Max
Plus™ Reformer), Chairs, Barrels and
a Cadillac/Trapeze Table. The Reformer
is the most popular and versatile piece
of equipment that is used in Pilates
workouts. It allows the user to work
their entire body while challenging core
stability with a nice dose of resistance.
Throughout a Pilates workout, you
are improving strength, coordination,
flexibility and balance - all with little
impact on joints.
