Community Service Opportunities
LeRoy Nursery School is looking for volunteers to help with their annual Turkey Trot
Run. It will be held on Saturday, November 8 at Summit Street Courts, Le Roy. The run
starts at 9 am. If you can help. Please call Debbie Chipre at 768-7700.
The Strong National Museum of Play, in Rochester, is looking for juniors and seniors to
help Saturday and Sunday, November 15 & 16, for their “In Another Galaxy” aka “Star
Wars” weekend. Students will dress in a “Jedi” robe (provided by the museum) and will
be assigned duties helping with children and families throughout the museum. Hours
would be 9:30 – 4 on Saturday and 12:20-4 on Sunday. Students could choose to work
only one day, or part of a day. Interested students can contact Cathy DeBellis at

Genesee ARC will be hosting its Chili and Chowder Fest and Basket Raffle on Saturday,
November 15. Help is needed from10 am till 2 pm at the ARC next to Notre Dame. If

GCASA is seeking volunteers to participate in “Sticker Shock.” Volunteers will gather at
GCASA at 430 East Main street, Batavia, at 8:45 am on November 15. Transportation
and lunch are provided and the event ends about 1 pm. Permission slips are requited,
which you can get from Mrs. Riter or Mrs. Schrader. To register, contact Lisa Barrett at

The Zonta Club at Batavia High school is looking for help with its Annual Holiday
Festival. Volunteers are needed to help venders throughout the day with set-up, hauling,
lunch breaks, and clean up. The event is on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 10 am
until 4 pm, but volunteers are needed from 8 am until 5 pm. You need not volunteer all
day. If you can help, contact Mrs. DeSanto in room 203 at Notre Dame during period 1 or

The Macpelah Cemetery in LeRoy needs help with its Fall raking and clean up. It is
located at 70 Summit Street, just past the Jell-O factory. If you can help, contact Mr. Jim

Looking for Help All the Time
Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month through the school year

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) is in need of volunteers to babysit children during its
Tuesday night meetings. Babysitters would watch children, play games in gym, teach a
Christian lesson, and do craft time. The event is at North Gate South Campus at 350 Bank
Street in Batavia (near Dwyer Stadium.) If you can help periodically or on a regular
basis, contact Diane Deleo at (585) 356-2680 or truckinchick561@yahoo.com. The
sooner you let her know you will be there, the better, but if you don’t know till that day,
then that’s fine. Freshman, this counts as church hours.
The YWCA is looking for volunteers to work in their childcare center at the courthouse.
They provide childcare from 9 a.m. till 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. They could
use help after school, on school vacation days, and over the summer. You must be 18
years old to provide this service. If you are interested, call Linda Olsen at 343-5808.
The YWCA is looking for volunteers who can help with various things like outdoor
maintenance, fund raising, helping man booths during events, or childcare. If you’d like

The VA Health Care System in Batavia is seeking student volunteers for its programs.
Students can expect to be matched with their interests. There are opportunities to help n
the following areas: filing, answering phones, transporting patients, visiting patients, read
to a patient, distribute mail or linens, assist at meal times, help veterans with computer
tasks, assist with recreation activities, play Wii with residents, or play musical
instruments. If you are interested in volunteering, call Mark Francis at 585-297-1197 or

The Wyoming County SPCA, a no-kill shelter, is in need of volunteers to help care for
animals. There are multiple ways to help. Call Jennifer Volpe at (585) 591-3114 for more
information.
St. Mary’s church in Batavia is in need of volunteers to help clean the church. Volunteers
are needed every Saturday from 9 a.m. to10 a.m. If you can help, please call Mary
Moskal at 585-615-9299. Freshman, this counts as church hours.
Genesee County Nursing Home needs volunteers every Saturday to help with bingo for
the residents from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. To sign up, call Mrs. Sue Buckley (Director of
Activities) at 344-0584 ext. 2116. Up to four students can volunteer per Saturday. Be sure
to bring your Community Service Hours form to the Activity Aid to be signed that day,
since they do not keep any records.
Habitat for Humanity is looking for help to staff its Restore located in Batavia. Hours are
Saturday 9 am until 2 pm. If interested please e-mail habitatrestore.gc@gmail.com or

The YWCA has various service opportunities throughout the year, including both
projects you can organize yourself with a group of friends or projects you can help out
on. They are located at 301 North Street in Batavia. To get more information and ideas,

The Manor House is in need of one or two volunteers for Saturday afternoons from
approx. 1:45 - 3:15 to play and oversee Bingo style games called Pokeno, Left right
center and 6 card bingo. Other opportunities to volunteer occur on Tuesday nights for
things such as playing Wii with residents or sharing musical talents. You can contact the
