For Jesus tells us clearly that it is those who have demonstrated good stewardship by sharing their gifts with the less fortunate who will receive God’s blessing and inherit the kingdom. Living Stewardship: We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who give evidence that Christ is Lord in their lives through adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, attendance at Benediction or Forty Hours devotion. Stewardship of Collections: Our thanks and gratitude for your sacrificial giving each week. WORSHIP NEXT WEEKEND November 29th and November 30th First Sunday of Advent COMBINED CHOIRS OF ST. A SERVICE OF LESSONS AND CAROLS FOR ADVENT at ST. HUGH OF LINCOLN On Sunday, December 7th at 3 PM, we will celebrate the season of Advent with “Lessons and Carols.” In this traditional form of prayer each “Lesson” (Scripture reading) will be followed by a “Carol” (song) of praise or longing. As has become our tradition, this annual service will be led by the combined Music Ministries from St. Hugh and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Join us as we celebrate this hope-filled season. All are welcome and invited for a light supper afterward. FROM THE PASTOR Outreach column: My name is Fran Leek and together with Yaritza Ramos (Yary) and a large group of very dedicated volunteers we run the Parish Outreach. We are responsible for the care of the underserved community in Huntington Station, this at times is a very daunting task but still it has it rewards. We currently feed over 650 people a month from our Client Choice Pantry. This could not be accomplished without your help. The weekly donations brought into the Church and into Outreach help keep our pantry shelves almost full. Along with Brown Bag Sunday’s which is always a great success and helps not only Outreach but St. Vincent DePaul to fill the Thanksgiving Baskets. During this time of the year our volunteers work very hard to ensure that we meet the needs of all the people who come to Outreach. In November we run our Christmas Gift Card Program that helps us care for some of our families who are having a particularly difficult year. And as usual it was very successful due to your generosity. From October to January we are abundantly blessed by the generous donations we receive from the Parish as well as from the Community. To keep us going throughout the year we have several Grants both County and State that allow us to purchase food when our shelves are bare. We also received a grant from the Capuchin Food Pantries which allows us to purchase whatever we need for our pantry. We also provide transportation to medical appointments, do some financial assistance for Rent, Utilities, Fuel Oil and Medications when we can. We can be reached by phone at 271-8986 or by e-mail. fran@sthugh.org. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Parishioners who throughout the year help us to provide this very essential Ministry for the Huntington Station Community. A special Thank You goes to our volunteers who spoke at the masses today. I also want to Thank Fr. Joe for allowing me to tell you our story in his column today. ANCESTRY.CHRIST.com An Evening of Spiritual Renewal The Gospel of Matthew tells us Jesus came from a family tree of sinners: murderers, cheats, cowards, adulterers, liars, tyrants, and fools, yet he is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters! His ancestors also include women and men of great faith like Mary and Joseph. Jesus is born into humanity at its most broken and its most graced, and that includes you! If Right to Life PRAYER FOR HEALING Father, source of healing & forgiveness, we pray for all parents overwhelmed by grief & sorrow at the loss of their son or daughter by abortion. You never abandon those who hope in You; so we pray the hearts of those wounded by abortion might be open to Your Divine Mercy, that they would have the grace of repentance & so experience the embrace of the Father. We pray that Jesus, the Good Shepherd, so rich in love & compassion, may hear the cry & see the tears of each of these mothers & fathers so He may heal their broken hearts & restore them to life. Give these grieving mothers & fathers the consolation of believing & trusting that her child is now living in the Lord. That this may soothe the terror of their soul. We pray that the Blessed Virgin Mother, Mother of all tenderness & our Mother, may strengthen their faith in you. We ask this through Christ our Lord, who conquered sin & death, & who lives with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever & ever. All are invited to come and join Bishop Murphy in this Liturgy of Thanksgiving December 5-7, 2014 WAITING – NOT DOING ANYTHING ADVENT SILENT RETREAT Nothing in our culture encourages us to wait or to discover what waiting can reveal to us of ourselves, life, and God. We are made to feel that if we find ourselves waiting, then something is wrong with us: we’re not efficient—we’re not “with it.” Indeed, anxiety, helplessness, fear, and vulnerability encourage us to avoid waiting. Waiting reveals—as nothing else does—what life can be. To avoid waiting is to avoid God, ourselves, and a richness of life that remains hidden until we begin to realize that the more we depend upon God, the more free we are! Presenter: Fr. Larry Lewis M.M. Our 100th Year Commemorative Quilt has been on display on the north wall of the Church for one year now .
