“Advancing Sewing as an Art and Life Skill” Vol. 32, No.4 Laramie, Wyoming Chapter Happy fall: My husband and I recently returned from Sedalia, Missouri to visit with friends. It was a nice time to travel and a lot of the trees were still very beautiful with the red and gold leaves. Lots of harvesting going on putting up the beans and corn. We were privileged to take a short road trip through Amish country. We stopped at a couple of general stores and of course bought some things. The stores were full of preserves, fresh baked goodies and much, much more. A wonderful place to buy some things in larger quantities than we can at grocery stores here. Our friends have a fairly large garden and sent us home with sweet potatoes. Their prize sweet potato weighed in at 11 pounds! Their pear tree was covered with pears so we also brought home pears. So far we have cooked some of the sweet potatoes and then I made an Apple Pear Pie. I had not tried that before but it certainly won’t be the last time I make it. We have had such a lovely fall; I couldn’t believe it was raining the other day and now some snow. The snow makes it seem more like November weather here should be and is good moisture for our lawns. With Christmas soon approaching thoughts of things to cook, sew and decorate are coming to mind. Hard to believe the stores had Christmas stuff out before Halloween! Seems they are rushing the seasons a little too much. This was one Halloween we had such lovely weather for the kids to go Trick or Treating in. That doesn’t always happen this way in Laramie! I hope you are enjoying you fall and finding time to do the fun things! Member Name (please print): _________________________________________ Member Signature: _________________________________________________ ASG member number (optional): ______________________________________________ Julie Houchin 1801 W Hill Road Laramie, WY 82072 ====================================Fold ============================== OUR WEBSITE INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS We have a website now for our Laramie chapter of the ASG!! The website is set up through Facebook (FB), so if you are not yet familiar with FB then a great place to start is with one of the online tutorials, such as: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Facebook or watch the video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mca5D5qmu0Q You'll need to set up a FB account for yourself if you do not already have one. Assuming you've done that, how do you get to the ASG chapter website from your FB home page? Note that there is a rectangular search box at the top of your home page with a blue "f" to the left of it. In the box, it says "Search for people, places and things" and at the right inside the box is an icon of a magnifying glass. You'll need to type into that box: "American Sewing Guild, Laramie WY Chapter". After you've done it once, if you need to get back to the ASG chapter website, the search engine should do an autofill after you've typed only a couple of letters like "Ame" or something like that. After it does autofill, it will bring down a menu and just click on the place you want to go to -the chapter website. (The autofill mechanism will make it easier for you to get back again after the first time you've gone there.) Another way to easily return to the ASG website from your home page (after going there the first time) is to bookmark the website address in your browser. If you want to view what other people have posted to our group website, then you need to subscribe to the group website. To subscribe to the website, you need to "Like" it. To "Like" it, go to the ASG chapter website and click on the thumbs-up "Like" button that appears in the bottom right side of the photograph at the top of the web page. After you do that, the button should change to say "Liked" and show a blue picture of a "thumbs up" on the left. Unfortunately, right after subscribing you can go back to your FB home page (by hitting the return arrow on your browser), refresh the browser, and yet you still won't see our ASG postings. But be patient. Wait about an hour or more. Sometimes it takes several hours. After that, you should be able to go to your own personal FB home page and see what's been posted so far on our ASG chapter website. A posting from our group website will have the ASG icon in blue and will have the title "American Sewing Guild, Laramie WY Chapter" at the top in blue letters. If you want to post on the ASG chapter website, use the same procedure as you use for posting on your own personal FB home page. But first go to the ASG group website. On the top right of the page, just below the photo, you should see a rectangular box and inside the box is stated "Write something on this Page..." Just type inside the box and then hit "Enter" on your keyboard and everyone who subscribes will be able to see your posting. Everything else should work exactly the way it does for a normal FB page. with FB, this should all be "a piece of cake." Once you're familiar For problems, please contact the Chapter Webmaster Diana at dianafayespears@gmail.com). American Sewing Guild Laramie Chapter 1801 ‘W’ Hill Road Laramie, WY 82072
