COMPUTER TECHNICIAN, PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR
Computer Services – Education Centre
OCTU GRADE 11 – 12 MONTH, 1.00 POSITION
SCOPE
As a team member of Computer Services, this position provides senior level expertise and recommendations for
improving IT system infrastructure and architecture to align with the organization's strategic direction. The individual is
expected to lead or participate in IT related projects and provide system administration to ensure stable, secure and
responsive environments.
DUTIES
Provide on-site and remote technical support services to administrative and curriculum computer
systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues relating to Windows Server architecture, Cisco network
infrastructure, VMWare and SAN systems.
Install, configure and support applications on various software and hardware platforms including
Windows OS and Apple iOS devices which conform to educational and industry standards.
Provide assistance on software, hardware and networking solutions to teachers, principals, students
and administrative staff.
Assist IT staff to resolve end user questions and problems on various system applications including
SharePoint Portal, Email and Microsoft Office, etc.
Utilize an automated system to track software, hardware and network issues.
Perform database maintenance relating to SIS applications using various support tools .
Liaise with vendors regarding hardware, software and network solutions; work with vendors to provide
quotes for IT solutions and services.
Track, report and resolve network security risks.
Perform business continuity activities including system backups, disaster recovery and change
management.
Maintain and update system documentation and provide reporting and statistical analysis.
Coordinate software deployment and distribution of updates/patches.
Train technical support personnel and create procedures in the operation and support of various
systems.
Coordinates and schedules assigned IT projects, compiles project status reports, leads project
meetings, and identifies/resolves technical issues related to IT projects.
Liaise with 21st Century Learning Team to align with HWDSB strategic direction.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Community college diploma or university degree in information technology, computer science, networking, or an
equivalent combination of training and experience in a system administrator role.
Five or more years experience in the field of computer system support.
A valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on teamwork and client service.
Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
Demonstrated experience with Windows Server OS, network services and system security.
Knowledge of Windows Active Directory design and related support tools.
Strong understanding of network protocols and Cisco network infrastructure.
Demonstrated experience leading IT related projects.
Experience using scripting language to perform advance troubleshooting, customization and automation.
