TELLABS DATA SHEET Tellabs® 503 Optical Distribution Hub (ODH) and Tellabs® 553 Optical Distribution Hub (ODH) Power source for remote-powered ONT applications and an option that adds an integrated optical splitter Overview The Tellabs® 503 Optical Distribution Hub (ODH) and Tellabs® 553 Optical Distribution Hub (ODH) provide an integrated solution for remote powering of Tellabs Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) and an option that includes a Passive Optical distribution splitter. By using either of the Tellabs 500 Series ODHs, commercial and government networks can realize reduced capital costs and rapid design and deployment by combining both functions into a single small form-factor unit. Support for thirty-two (32) ONTs is provided by the Tellabs® 500 Series ODH, resulting in up to 128 end-user ports of high-speed Gigabit Ethernet data, voice, video, wireless, surveillance, security, building automation and building environmentals. Tellabs® 503 Optical Distribution Hub (ODH) The Tellabs 500 Series ODH power source leverages industrystandard IEEE 802.3at Power over Ethernet (PoE) to distribute DC power to each of the ONTs. Designed for ease of deployment, the single rack unit chassis has been optimized for installation in standard zone boxes or raised floor locations. The Tellabs 500 Series ODH can also be deployed in communication closet racks, leveraging much of the power and cabling that may already be present in network refresh environments. Network powering interfaces utilize standard RJ-45 Ethernet connectors, further simplifying deployment by allowing reuse of existing Cat3, Cat5, Cat5e and Cat6 cabling for carrying DC power to each of the ONTs. By using existing terminated Ethernet cables in the communication closet, the cost of deployment can be greatly reduced, allowing simple plug-and-plug installation for remote powering. Tellabs® 553 Optical Distribution Hub (ODH) Services Optical Splitter Power The Tellabs 553 ODH integrates a 1:32 Passive Optical Network (PON) splitter, which is compliant with ITU-T G.984 standards. The optical interface connecting back to the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) is located at the rear of the unit, using standard SC/APC interfaces. The optical interfaces connecting to each of the 32 ONTs are located on the front of the unit, using standard LC/APC fiber connectors. Both the Tellabs 503 ODH and Tellabs 553 ODH use industrystandard PoE technology to provide DC power to each of the 32 ONTs. Leveraging the latest high-power IEEE 802.3at chipset, each of the 32 power interfaces can provide up to 30 watts of PoE power simultaneously to each ONT. The electrical interface connecting to each ONT is located on the front of the unit, using standard RJ-45 connectors, allowing the reuse of existing cabling to reduce deployment costs.
