World Kindness Day
Last Thursday 13 November was World Kindness Day. The purpose
of World Kindness Day is to look beyond ourselves, beyond the
boundaries of our country, beyond our culture, our race, our religion, and realise we are citizens of the world. As world citizens we
have a commonality, and must realise that if progress is to be made
in human relations and endeavours, if we are to achieve the goal of
peaceful coexistence, we must focus on what we have in common.
Each day we can act kindly and be the change we want to see in the
world. Importantly, we role model this behaviour to our children
each day! When we're kind to people we know it strengthens our
connections with them and provides a source of support. Research
shows that we may benefit from giving support more than those
receiving it - and we're also more likely to get support in return
when we need it. Being kind to others builds a wider support net -
P & C meets at 7pm the 2nd Monday of each month during school terms.

work which increases well-being all round. Doing kind things for others helps build co-operation, trust and a sense
of safety in our communities. It also helps us to see others more positively and empathise with them. These are
the foundations of a thriving community and a flourishing society - one which builds well-being all round. Many
kind acts often go unnoticed. Well, here are a few I noticed in the last week:
*Saying hello!
*Smiling and acknowledging people!
*Sharing compliments!
*Congratulating others!
*Brightening up our office area/ staffroom with flowers!
*Hugs- and lots of them!
*Helping others!
*Picking up rubbish without being asked!
*Carrying a school bag for a friend!
*Standing up for a buddy!
*Saying thank you!
*Opening the door for another person!
*Donating own pocket money to St Matt’s ‘Love in Action’ project!
These are just a few noticed acts of kindness. Without a doubt, kindness is contagious and it makes our community a nicer place to be!
Here comes the bride - congratulations Miss Camphin!
We wish our gorgeous Miss Camphin all the very best as she takes some leave at the end of this week to prepare
for her upcoming wedding. We know she will make the most stunning bride and we look forward to her sharing
her photos and memories of her special day when she returns to school next year as Mrs Noonan. Miss Tania Marlin will be taking KC for the remainder of the year and we welcome her back to our school.
Congratulations Ms Naqase!
Each year the Metropolitan North Regional AECG, in partnership with representatives from various sectors, hosts
an Achievement Award Ceremony to recognise the educational achievements of students, teachers and community members. We are very proud to announce that Ms Sara Naqase was nominated for a Met North Regional AECG
Achievement Award for her commitment to and leadership in Aboriginal Education. Congratulations Ms Naqase
for what is an extremely well deserved nomination!
Year 6 gift to our school!
You may have noticed the gradual transformation of the wall outside the office area in the last couple of weeks. As
a parting gift to our school, our wonderful year 6 and their families are transforming this otherwise boring brick
wall to an amazing vertical garden! We are all so excited as we watch this special project unfold to brighten up and
give life to this area of our school. Thank you to our year 6 and their families in advance. We are so looking forward to seeing your final product and watching our wall come to life!
Thank you to our wonderful community for supporting Piper’s ‘Play for Piper’ Mufti Day and her quest for national athletics. Best wishes Piper! We are all behind you!

Scholastic Book Club – Last order for 2014
The last Scholastic Book Club for this year is being distributed to students this week and all orders are due no later
than MONDAY 24 NOVEMBER.
As this is the last order for 2014 we will be taking special "Christmas Orders" which can be kept secret from your
child. Please write "Christmas" on the top of the order form next to your child's name and put the order in the box
marked "Scholastic Christmas Orders" in the office. They will not be distributed to your child in the classroom. We
will notify you via the newsletter when the orders are in and you can pick them up from the office. Deadline is the
same and all information needs to be filled out as with regular orders. Stock up now for Christmas, birthdays or
gifts!
Remember, MVPS receives $20 back in credit for every $100 in orders! Our teachers have been using these credits
to buy classroom books, stickers, stamps, readers, and educational games for our children. So, do some early
Christmas shopping and let’s get our teachers even more credits to use!
Orders must be prepaid via online or telephone payment only. We cannot accept cash/cheques or your credit card
numbers. Please complete your order forms making sure all information is filled out (e.g. child's name, class,
quantity, price, number of items etc). Once you have your total cost, make the payment to Scholastic following
the instructions on the order form. Simply enter your total purchase amount and your credit card details and Scholastic will automatically generate a receipt number. Write the receipt number on your order form and hand it all in
to your teacher or place in our Scholastic Christmas box in the office.

Band News
Impetigo (School sores)
Symptoms
Small red spots change into blisters that fill up with
pus and become crusted; usually on the face, hands or
scalp.
School or home?
Keep home from school until antibiotic treatment
starts. Sores should be covered with watertight dressings.
How can I help prevent spread?
Parents of children who may have had contact with
impetigo should look for signs of infection and seek
treatment if symptoms develop.
Careful hand washing especially after changing dressings.
Avoid sharing toilet articles, towels, clothing or bed
linen. Consider using anti-bacterial soap for bathing for
two to three weeks. Avoid scratching or touching the
lesions to prevent spread to other parts of the body.
Completing the recommended antibiotic course is
very important.
BAND SECRETARY POSITION
Manly Village Band urgently needs a secretary and this
is a great way to support music as part of the children's education at MVPS.
The Band Information Evening begins at 6.30pm in the
school hall, this evening for recruiting band members
for 2015 for students in Years 2, 3 and 4 that want to
join the band and learn music.
Children that are currently enrolled in Band 2014, are
not required to attend tonight (unless you’re a stage
band member performing). Blow tests for children and
percussionists will be held on 20 November from
9.30am in the Green Room. Please bring the band application form from the Band Information book that
was emailed to you. This needs to be submitted to enable you to do a blow test.
No blow tests tomorrow as advertised as we have K-2
assembly Training Concert band and scripture. Any
child that does not get tested on Thursday on their
first and second instrument choice will get a chance
next week.
Please continue to check your Sunday night band
emails as we have a lot of band information
that is of importance for the band students.

Science and Technology After-School Program! TechScience is a unique program that aims to prepare
today's children for tomorrow's world by teaching about the latest technological and scientific breakthroughs - Robots, Genetics, Virtual Reality, exploring the universe, 3D printing and much more. We will
