Holiday Closings
New Year’s Day
January 1
Recently I was selected
by the New York Library
Association to attend their
2014 Annual Conference
in Saratoga Springs
thanks to a generous
conference sponsorship.
I attended sessions
relating to fundraising, technology and
library administration; and reconnected
with many fellow
New York librarians.
I was fortunate
to participate in
discussions hosted
by fellow MidHudson librarians
Frank Rees (Saugerties) and Rebekkah
Smith Aldrich (MHLS). Meeting Sarah
Houghton (a.k.a. The
Librarian in Black), who
is a hero of mine, was a
thrill. Her advocacy for
internet privacy rights is
greatly admirable. Check
out her web site at www.
librarianinblack.net.
You will have noticed a cost saving
measure. While we continue to mail
print copies of this newsletter to reach
all LaGrange citizens, regardless of their
internet access, we are now migrating
from four newsletters per year to three.
If you wish to opt out in lieu of reading
this document online, please feel free
to e-mail the library at lagrangelibrary@
laglib.org. Postage savings are always
appreciated!
Experiencing cabin fever? Know that the
library is open an extra 3 days this year
to offer engaging activities on non-school
days.
Finally, as the winter weather turns our
LaGrange roads slippery and impassible,
we attempt to keep the library open to
serve you as best as we can. However,
safety is a paramount concern for
patrons and staff alike. Should we be on
a snow closure day, or late opening/early
closing, please call us to confirm hours
of operation. We make every attempt
to get the message out by changing our
telephone message, posting to Facebook
and www.cancellations.com, and notifying
local radio stations. We waive fines for
snow days. Please drive cautiously on
our winter roads; keeping it safe for our
school buses and children waiting at their
bus stops. Thank you Michael Kelly @
LaGrange Highway Department and his
dedicated crew of snowplow operators
and salt truck drivers for attending to our
slippery roadways.
Eagerly awaiting spring tulips and
daffodils,

...Hello Mary Wickham
Join us in welcoming Mary Ford Wickham as
our new Youth Programmer. Mary comes
to us with a background in homeschooling
and is a graduate of Brooklyn College with a
Masters in Fine Arts.
Our Annual Campaign
Can we reach our goal of $20,000?
With your help, yes
we can!
We’ve been selected to receive
$1500 Building STEAM with Dia
Mini-Grant!
The grant is awarded to libraries
that demonstrate a need to better
address the diverse backgrounds
within their communities and exhibit the
ability to develop and host culturally diverse
and appropriate STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts and Math) programs.
LaGrange Library is one of only twenty libraries
across the country to receive this award.
As part of the grant, we're invited to attend the
Day of Diversity: Dialogue and Action full-day
event sponsored by the Association for Library
Service to Children in collaboration with the
Children’s Book Council held at the American
Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in
Chicago on January 30, 2015, and in addition,
will receive a $500 travel stipend.
We very gratefully accept donations of any amount; we can best provide LaGrange with a world-class library
if we receive a $25 gift from every member of our community. All $25/+ donors will be thanked in our Annual
Campaign Report. $100+ donors will be invited to our Library for an appreciation event.
I (we) would like to make a tax-deductible donation to our LaGrange Association Library’s 2014-2015 Annual
Fund Campaign in the amount of $_____________.
