the LaGrange Library to be a dynamic

Good Fishing in the Adirondacks:
From Lake Champlain to the
Streams of Tug Hill
by Dennis Aprill
With this time of year being cold and
blustery, many of us are looking forward
to planning vacations in 2016. Stop
by your Library for travel aid help. We
have updated our travel section with
current Fodor’s, Moon, Lonely Planet, DK
Eyewitness and Frommer’s travel guides
to give travelers current lodging, restaurant
and attraction information from around
the world. Browse our blu-ray and DVD
collection to view scenic vistas from world
wide travel destinations. Or, brush up on
your foreign language skills with our online
resource Mango Languages…all with the
power of your library card.
Admittedly, we in the Potwin house love
the snow and winter weather. However,
we too, are dreaming of our annual lake
fishing holiday. Our lives are based on
being near the water, fishing and the marine
life which sustain a healthy ecosystem.
Naturally, we read library items on this
topic to sustain us, until the water thaws
and the early summer spawning months
arrive. I am sharing a few titles we Potwins
have enjoyed to sustain fellow LaGrange
fishermen and fisherwomen like us:

By the way, it is worth noting that your
LaGrange Library has a number of boat
motor and marine GPS repair manuals
for LaGrange boaters to consult while
readying your vessel for the season. Or,
ready your towing vehicle with information
from our Chilton’s repair database.

LaGrange Library was grateful to
be selected to participate in the
United Way’s 2015 Holiday Helping
Hands Program working to provide
support to individuals and families in Dutchess County.
LaGrange Library is a Recipient of the Great
Stories Club Grant
Organized by the American
Library Association (ALA), the Great Stories Club is a
reading and discussion program that targets underserved,
troubled teen populations and funded by the National
Endowment for the Humanities. From January through
March 2016, we will be facilitating a series of teen reading
group discussions with the theme Hack the Feed: Media,
Resistance and Revolution. Thank you to ALA and the
Mid-Hudson Housing Authority for partnering with us.
LaGrange Library Partners with
The Crooked Rooster for April
Fundraiser
To celebrate National Library Month,
we’re happy to announce that The
Crooked Rooster, located at 399
Manchester Road, will once again
be donating 10% of their Monday lunch and dinner sales
throughout the month of April to the LaGrange Library.
Last year’s event was quite successful with The Crooked
Rooster donating $204 to the Library. Why not enjoy a
delicious meal and support the Library at the same time?
LaGrange Library Receives the Mid-Hudson
Library System’s (MHLS) Outstanding
Accomplishment Sustainability Initiative Award
The award was presented to LaGrange Library on
October 16, 2015 at the 56th Annual MHLS Membership
Meeting at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel in recognition
as one of the first of 66 libraries in the library system to
sustainably source the paper used to print patron receipts
and hold slips. The switch to an alternative paper made
by Wisconsin-based company Appvion uses a vitamin C
formulation from recycled orange peels in place of phenols.
We very gratefully accept donations of any amount; we can best provide LaGrange with a world-class library if we receive
a $25 gift from every member of our community. All $25/+ donors will be thanked in our Annual 2015-2016 Campaign
Report. $100+ donors will be invited to our Library for an appreciation event.
I (we) would like to make a tax-deductible donation to our LaGrange Association Library’s 2015-2016 Annual Fund
