A FRED (Fathers Reading
Every Day) Event: Run and
Read will be held Monday,
Jan. 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
at the Cuyuna Range
Elementary School (CRES)
main gym.
The evening will consist
of free play in the gym followed by group games, book
reading and a featured story.
Each family will take home a
copy of the featured book for
the evening. This fun evening
is intended for biological
fathers, step-dads, grandpas,
uncles, family friends, mentors or any other man
involved in the life of a
kindergarten through second
grade child.
This FRED event is free,
but
pre-registration
is
required. Registration deadline is Jan. 13.
This FRED Program is
sponsored by the CrosbyIronton
Community
Education Department.

The Deerwood Lakes
Lions Club will be offering a
$500 non-traditional scholarship for students pre-registered for spring semester
2015.
Applicants must be at
least 23 years of age and
reside in either Crow Wing or
Aitkin counties.
Scholarships are determined by the applicants academic record, involvement in
the community and probable
success in their chosen field
and the demonstrated need of
financial assistance.

Cuyuna Range Elementary
School (CRES) for children
who are enrolled in grades K
through 6. The Ranger Care
program will be available
beginning Monday, Jan. 5,
2015 and ending Tuesday,
June 2, 2015, from 6:30 a.m.
to 8 a.m. (availability of
morning hours subject to
change based on enrollment)
and from 3 to 6 p.m. on
school days (Monday through
Friday).

Do you have an old band
instrument sitting in the back
of your closet? CrosbyIronton High School and
CRES are looking for donations of band instruments.
The school is looking for
band instrument donations
that can be given to students
who could otherwise not
afford to participate in band.
Helpful donations would
include: flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, baritones and even
tubas! If you are interested in
donating an instrument,

the Courier after hours, please

newspaper tube to the right of

that your messages are secure
and that we receive them in
good condition.

student is assigned a fourdigit personal account identification number that should
never be shared with other
students.
The system is based on
family accounts, so parents
may write one check that will
cover purchases for all students at both the high school
and CRES. Deposits by check
must be made before the
school day begins. Payments
will not be accepted during
the lunch shifts. Under no circumstances may students
charge lunch. The food service department strives to provide quality meals to the C-I
students. The menus are stateplanned and adapted to our
local needs. Students and visiting parents are encouraged
to take advantage of the meals
provided.
In compliance with Public
Law 95.166, pop, water ices,
chewing gum and certain candies cannot be sold during
school lunch shifts.

Kidz Klub at HCC
Hallett Center of Crosby
is offering Kidz Klub over
Christmas Break. Similar to
the popular summer Kidz
Kamp, the Hallett Center of
Crosby will be offering half
day programming for children in kindergarten through
fifth grade from 8:30 a.m. to
noon on Dec. 22, 23, 26, 29,
30 and Jan. 2.
Kidz Klub will feature
crafts, games, swimming and
other activities.
Advanced Registration is
encouraged. The cost is $10
per day per child for members
and $12 per day per child for
non-members.
Using school
district facilities
The
Crosby-Ironton
School District’s faciltities
are available for public
use—for example, events,
meetings, activities, and
fund-raisers. Facility use
fees may apply.
Cancellation of your
event when using school
facilities must be made 48
hours in advance of the
event or you will be liable
for rental fees. Contracts for
rent of facilities will be canceled due to bad weather,
and all activities will be canceled on emergency closing
days with no additional
charges assessed to reschedule. The school district
reserves the right to cancel
reservations, and the district
is not responsible for
mechanical or electrical failure.

C-I Transportation asks
parents and students to be
sure all kids riding the bus to
school be at their bus stops
five minutes early in order to
keep the buses on schedule.
Pledge of Allegiance policy at C-I
The Pledge of Allegiance
will be recited on the first
school day of each week at the
start of third hour (10:24 a.m.).
Anyone who does not wish
to participate in reciting the
Pledge of Allegiance for any
personal reason may elect not to
do so. Students must respect
other person's right to make that
choice. (Minn. §121A.11).

Childhood Family Education
provides a class where you can
craft, free play, meet, enjoy
music, snack and play in the
gym. It is a great time for parents to participate in activities
with their children. The children love sharing the school
experience with mon, dad,
grandpa, grandma or any other
inportant adult in their lives.
Cuyuna Range Elemen-tary
School is seeking parents and
community members interested
in volunteering in various areas
throughout
the
school.
Volunteer opportunities exist in
many classrooms, especially in
the younger grades. Whether
you have an hour a week or an
hour a year to give, you can
have a positive influence on a
