C. 44686 7th January, 2015 Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments are asked to invite applications from suitably qualified officers in their Ministries/Departments to fill/be assigned to the posts of Crown Counsel (JLG/LO 3) in the Attorney General’s Chambers, salary range $2,186,482 $2,599,040 per annum and the relevant allowance(s) attached to the posts. Job Purpose Reporting to the Divisional Director, the Crown Counsel is responsible for providing general legal advice to various Ministries, Departments of Government, Agencies of Government, Statutory Bodies and Government owned Companies, delivering opinions on a variety of legal issues and representing the Government in litigation, commercial, constitutional and international matters. Key Responsibilities Prepares and renders sundry legal opinions to ministries, departments of government, agencies of government, statutory bodies and public companies on a wide range of legal issues; Interprets Statutes; Negotiates settlements; Represents the Government at meetings, on boards and other bodies; Drafts commercial agreements and other commercial documents; Prepares for and appears in Court. Required Skills/Competencies Sound knowledge of the Laws of Jamaica Excellent oral and written communication skills Sound research, analytical and time management skills Ability to analyze and interpret legal documents Excellent presentation skills Proficiency in the use of relevant computer applications 2/… -2- Minimum Required Qualification and Experience Bachelors of Laws Degree (LL.B.)
