THE 21ST ANNUAL WOMEN’S GATHERING - SUNDAY, JANUARY 11TH: The 21st Annual Women's Gathering will take place on Sunday, January 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Siegel JCC. Topic: Are You My Jewish Mother? CHUG IVRI - TUESDAY, JANUARY 13TH: Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 13th at 7:30 p.m. in the AKSE Library with our Shlicha, Lior Ron. THE SIXTH ANNUAL AKSE ACADEMY - SATURDAY, JANUARY 17TH: Participate in an evening of Jewish learning and light refreshments, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. Choose one class from each of three sessions. Guest instructors will teach classes on a variety of engaging subjects, including Growing Up Jewish in Egypt (Huguette Piha), the Netherlands (Lex Vega), and South Africa (Cyril Milunsky); The Beatles’ Jewish Connections (Joel Glazier); Intellectual Property in Jewish Law (Scott Slomowitz); Tzniut (Modesty) - What is it really? (Karen Moss); Women’s Bodies, Jewish Laws (Rosalyn Plotzker); and Israel: Behind the Scenes (Lior Ron). Fee for the evening is $10.00 paid in advance by January 15th, $12.00 at the door. FEDERATION SHABBAT - FRIDAY, JANUARY 23RD: Join the community at Federation Shabbat on Friday evening, January 23rd at Temple Beth El. A PJ Library program will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a community dinner at 6:00 p.m. and services beginning at 7:30 p.m. The cost for dinner is $20.00 per adult, $10.00 per child ages 6-12, with a family maximum of $60.00. COMMUNITY CLASSIC ROCK PARTY - SATURDAY, JANUARY 24TH: Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth, Congregation Beth Emeth, Congregation Beth Shalom, and Temple Beth El invite you to come and dance the night away at our Classic Rock Party on Saturday, January 24th from 7:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. at AKSE. Great music, trivia, and games will be provided by DJ Joey Z / Wired up Entertainment. Take a break from dancing and enjoy pizza, snacks, and soft drinks. A cash bar will be available. Admission is just $20.00 per person paid in advance ($22.00 at the door). Tickets can be purchased at any of the sponsoring synagogues or at the door. Need child care? THE AKSE FILM SERIES: This three part series, led by Ken Kamm, will be held at 1:00 PM on the following Sunday afternoons: February 15th, March 8th, and April 19th. The format will include approx. 45 minutes of film clips, studio history and participative discussion, snack, and then the screening of one of the films in its entirety. March 8th - Women’s Issues: Independence, Empowerment, Tradition. Film clips and discussion from Hester Street, Crossing Delancey, and Yentl. Watch all of Hester Street. April 19th - Anti-Semitism: Film clips and discussion from Crossfire, A Gentlemen’s Agreement, The Young Lions. Watch all of Crossfire.
