Michael Glenn, brother of parishioner Nancy Fetterman Basilica Pancake Breakfast will be held next Sunday, January 25, after both Masses, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee. There is no charge but a donation would be gratefully appreciated! St. John Catholic School will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, January 25, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Teachers, parents, and students will be available for tours of the campus and to discuss the exciting opportunities ahead in the 2015-16 school year. Tuition assistance and scholarship information will also be provided or can be found by calling 850-456-5218 or visiting www.stjohnpensacola.com. Meet & Greet Sunday for new parishioners will be held next Sunday, January 25th, after both Masses. We will formally welcome new parishioners who have joined us since October 2014. Also, the next “Invite a Friend to Mass” will be March 15, 2015. St. Paul Books and Media will be here at the Basilica on Sun., Jan. 25th. The Daughters of St. Paul is a religious order of Sisters dedicated to Catholic media. The Sisters will be at Celebrate Faith 2015 on Sat., Jan. 24th, but will set up a religious book, movie and articles “store” in the Community Center on Sun., Jan. 25th. They perform a great ministry in Catholic media. We will send out a reminder on our Basilica parish app before they arrive. Flowers in the Sanctuary are a special way to honor a loved one for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions. We would like to have fresh flowers on the altars each week. Arrangements for either of the side altars are $40; prices for those on the main altar depend on size and type. To reserve a date and order flowers, contact Lori Storey at (917)903-0559 or storeylori@hotmail.com. Dear Parishioners, Some tidbits this week… First, next Sunday will be a busy morning here. We have a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. We will also formally welcome our new parishioners who have registered since October 2014. The Daughters of St Paul will be here with religious items for sale. The Sisters are operating a religious items concession during next Saturday’s Celebrate Faith 2015. As they are traveling back to South Carolina, I invited them to come to the Basilica for Sunday. We will be tight, but that is good. Also with us next Sunday is Father Thomas Rosica, CSB. Father Tom is president and CEO of Salt and Light Media in Toronto, Canada. Father is one our keynote speakers for Celebrate Faith 2015. His flight is late on Sunday, so invited him to stay with me on Saturday night and preach on Sunday. Plus, he, too, is from Rochester and it will be an occasion for a neo-Canadian and a neo-southern to reminisce. Second, the restoration project may seem to be at a standstill, but: a) we are waiting for the Florida legislature to approve the recommendations of the Historic Preservation Bureau. We need this approval before we can begin. The legislature’s next session begins in March and ends in May. We may ask for a letter writing campaign to our local legislators asking their support. More on that later. b) Monies continue to come in on windows. Some parishioners opted to make payments rather than a one-time payment. c) We are still seeking sponsorship of the two windows on Chase St that are in the sacristy. These were colored glass panes at one time and we would like to replace the clear glass with glass that are the colors of the Basilica crest; gold and red. We have a design, but need a sponsor or two. These windows will tie in with the work we hope to accomplish in the bell tower. d) Good news! The pew cushions are going to be replaced by Easter. They have served well since 1986. This dimension of the restoration project is being accomplished through the generosity of a parishioner who earmarked his contribution for this purpose. Third, we have added six new Sunday Mass lectors to our group and four new altar servers. This brings our altar server corps to eighteen which is a good number for our size parish! Lastly, thank you for your commitment and loyalty to the Basilica parish. Again, I would like to wish everyone a good New Year. My prayer is that in 2015 we grow in our love for Father, Son & Holy Spirit, grow in our faith, and increase service and participation in the parish. God will never be outdone in generosity. Wishing you a good Sunday and a pleasant week, Father Joe Callipare
