Remember our Military Members
Lord, your Word says that whoever goes to
you for safety, whoever remains under the
protection of the Almighty can say to you,
“You are my defender and protector, you are
my God; in you I trust.”
May our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters
and friends in the military, and all our troops turn to you and
find rest in the shadow of your wings.

Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older,
who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day
one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to
maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's
needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.
Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids,
including milk and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On
days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health
or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does
not oblige.
Diabetics, hypoglycemia and numerous other physical
conditions do not allow for the altering of food intake.
Persons with special dietary needs or the need for
physical stamina to work can be excused. When in doubt
concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should
be consulted.
The rules for fasting before Communion have changed
over the centuries. A Catholic who wished to receive Holy
Communion used to have to fast from midnight on. The
elderly, the infirm, and those who care for them can receive
the Most Holy Eucharist even if they have eaten something
within the preceding hour.
