Humphrey & Cindy VanderVlugt at the death of Cindy’s mom, Donna Whaley. Donna died on December 31. Ken & Donna have been at worship with us over the years. Service was held at Zion Lutheran in Cadillac where they were members all their married life, almost 65 years together. Grandchildren Jon and Becky VanderVlugt gave wonderful tributes to their grandma. A Memorial Service was held on January 17 for Eric Lahti. Eric died at home January 8. In 2002 Eric joined St. Paul and enjoyed coaching our co-ed softball team for several years, and took part in church activities. We keep Rochelle in prayers. Congratulations Cindy VanderVlugt upon her retirement from the United States Postal Service; working for 27 years, 17 of 27 years serving in Reed City. We will miss Cindy working behind the counter addressing our questions. Thank You Dear Brothers & Sisters of St. Paul, I want to thank all of you for thinking of me. Your cards, notes, Circle 2 cookies, and Pastor Dawn’s monthly visits remind me that though I’m unable to attend services; I am still a member of St. Paul’s. My live long connection to St. Paul is something I treasure, and it gives me so much peace and joy! I count each of you a blessing. Thank you so much. Love, Marian Thiel Church Family Robert and I would like to thank you for your most generous Christmas gift. A Lenten Adventure – A Living Faith The season of Lent is a time for us to pause and make room in our lives for God’s Spirit to speak to us. Our mid-week Lenten services begin February 18th, at 7:00 p.m. with a traditional Ash Wednesday service with Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes and we are reminded that from dust we came and to dust we shall return. For the following Lenten services we will hear from a biblical character-John Mark, the author of the Gospel of Mark. He will share that indeed faith is a life-long journey – an adventure in becoming all God created for us to be, and that faith is not an end unto itself, but a means to an end – that end being eternal life. We are all works in progress, with questions, struggles, doubts, and surprises as we travel through life. Mark will share some of those from his own life. Plan now to give back to God a little more of the time he so generously gives you, and attend the mid-week Lenten services. Beginning February 25th, there will be a 6:00 p.m. Lenten dinner sponsored by our ministry teams with services at 7:00 p.m. Youth Corner What’s Happening? 2-4 Lawrence Huss 2-4 Jacob Stange 2-6 Mason Johnson 2-8 Makayla Roggow 2-9 Mick Reed 2-12 Elaine Kailing 2-13 Jack Wilson 2-15 Canyon Reed 2-16 Gayle Brownlee 2-16 Ella Ford 2-18 June Keysor 2-19 Kylene Bookwalter 2-22 Logan Vincent 2-25 Rick Mom 2-25 Cindy Remus 2-25 Chris Wabindato 2-26 Elijah Brown 2-26 Art Proefrock Fundraiser – A big thank you to the congregation for your support for our popcorn weekends. Why are there so many different Christian denominations? Fellowship - Laurie Cendrowski hosted the Youth Group for overnight at her house. The group went on a road trip to Mt. Service to the Congregation – Youth Group will be hosting Fellowship Hour on February 1st and hosting Lenten Supper on March 11th. 2-2 Gabriella Hall 2-12 Joel Robbins 2-20 Emma McCleary Because of the support of parents and the congregation, Laurie Cendrowski and Pastor were able to attend the December Youth Gathering in Lansing with Emma McCleary, Miranda Church, Makayla Roggow, Allison Roberts and Brandy Williams. (Continued on the next page.) I would like to take this opportunity t thank the congregation for their support , without you I wouldn’t have been able to have the life changing experience. The theme for The Gathering this year was Love They Neighbor. Twice during the day we would go to small groups, where you didn’t necessarily know anybody, every time we met we learned more about a different aspect of love, loving ourselves, loving others, loving God, or how God loves us. My favorite was probably where we learned about how God loves us no matter what and as long as we know that, doing the other aspects will be easier. We also met to worship every day, we would pray and sing with the band that was there. My time at The Gathering was nothing short of amazing. I met so many new people and learned so much, I wouldn’t trade that for anything. Allison Roberts This year was my 4th year attending and probably my last. I really enjoyed the activities and the theme of Love. I really thought this experience helped our Youth Group get closer, before I was the odd one out always quiet. I feel so much more comfortable with the others. This new relationship was the best part of The Gathering for me. Brandy Williams My Gathering experience is one I will never forget. The fact that so many people come together to worship, it opened my eyes to see how many people care and I seen some people that were down went to small groups and so many people cheered them up and that was my favorite part. Thank you for supporting me and helping me go to The Gathering. Miranda Church My experience at The Gathering was very fun and interesting. The service was the best part for me. The little girl that I was playing with was a little challenging for me. Her name was Carmen. I know that she came from a difficult household, so I kept my patience throughout the service project. The service project taught me that I should be grateful for what I have. Makayla Roggow (Continued on the next page) Going to The Gathering this past weekend was an amazing faith experience. Us girls not only grew closer but we made new friends. My favorite part was our service day. Kids from a local group, Kids Explosion, came in and we partnered up with one of them. For all that day, we got to talk and see things from their eyes. My whole weekend was an eye opener. I loved every moment! Thank you for your support and help in growing in my faith. Emma McCleary The Gathering 2014 was a great time of fellowship. I want to thank Church Council & the congregation for all the financial support & prayers for our Youth Group. Watching high school students worship the Lord & bond is so rewarding for me to witness! I really like getting to spend more time with Pastor & the girls to get to know them better! Thank again for this opportunity, working with the girls really fulfills me & makes me complete! I know it is truly where God wants me to serve.
