SACRAMENTS MASSES INTENTIONS READINGS FOR THIS SUNDAY MASS INTENTIONS FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FEBRUARY 1, 2015 FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SAT 1/31 4:00 PM First Reading: Deuteronomy 18:15-20 Moses explains to the people that a prophet will come from among them, and that they should listen to this prophet’s words, for God has told him of this prophet. God also tells Moses that anyone who pretends to speak in his words, or speaks in the name of other gods shall die. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 Paul tells the Corinthians how an unmarried man or woman is able to devote themselves fully to God without concern for the needs of a spouse. Paul explains that God wants to help them promote good and devote themselves more fully to God. SUN 2/1 8:00 AM 9:30 AM Gospel: Mark 1:21-28 As Jesus was teaching, a man with an unclean spirit came to the synagogue and asked if Jesus had come to destroy them. Jesus ordered the spirit out of the man, who shrieked violently as the spirit departed. The people were amazed at the authority he had over the spirit. 11:30 AM Daily Readings for the Week MON 2/2 8:00 AM 9:00 AM Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Monday Mal 3:1-4; Heb 2:14-18; Lk 2:22-40 or 2:22-32 Tuesday Heb 12:1-4; Mk 5:21-43 Wednesday Heb 12:4-7, 11-15; Mk 6:1-6 Thursday Heb 12:18-19, 21-24; Mk 6:7-13 First Friday Heb 13:1-8; Mk 6:14-29 First Saturday Heb 13:15-17, 20-21; Mk 6:30-34 Ronald J. Since November when we celebrated our fifth anniversary as St. Simon Stock Parish, we have centered at the altar an antique trunk. Trunks signify history, mystery, traditions and treasures. For us at St. Simon Stock Parish it is all of these. This same trunk adorned our worship space in 2009-2010, the first year of our new parish. We brought it back and have centered it in our liturgical celebrations. November – the fruits of the harvest December – the time of anticipation- Veni Emmanuel-Come Lord Jesus Christmas Time – the arrival of the Infant KingWonder Counselor January/February – the treasures of our faith; the Gospels, Roman Missal; hymnal; Prayers and scriptures February/March/April/May - Ash Wednesday and throughout the Easter Season – Repent and Follow Me into New Birth-Alleluia! These are the treasures, traditions and mystery of our faith journey so far! Share this with your family, your children and your friends. What a wonderful visual image! 3 Welcome St. Simon Stock Travelers! WINTER/SPRING TOURS 2015 World Religions So….WHAT will you do on this TOUR? Assistant bcipolone@comcast.net 856- 767-1537 February 22, 2015 6:30 pm ~ Parish Meeting Center Child Lures Prevention Program Just the Way You Are (You’re Amazing) The Diocese of Camden has selected Child Lures Prevention as a safe environment program for our religious education programs in the parishes. The basic premise is that an individual who intends to harm a child uses a “lure” to get the child away and to do harm. So, children are taught how to recognize lures and how to protect themselves. Each year your child will be taught a different lure. The Diocese of Camden is committed to ensure that the children entrusted into our care are safe and that we provide them with the tools they need to guarantee their safety. Presenter: Jessica Boyington – former Alumni of OLMC School, Paul VI and Miss New Jersey, USA Jessica is known not only from her time as Miss New Jersey but also from working as a traffic reporter for CBS 3 Eyewitness News and the Chio in the Morning show on Wired 96.5. God won’t necessarily give you everything you want, but He will provide His STEWARDS with everything they need. Try this – use the word “pray” instead of the word “worry” in the future. Parishioners who feel ill should be reminded to stay at home and refrain from attendance at Mass or other church events until they are fully recovered. Illness is a justifiable excuse from the Sunday Mass obligation. During the flu season, the faithful should be encouraged to share the Sign of Peace without touching hands or kissing. This may be done with eye-contact, a smile, and a bow of the head while saying the words “May the peace of Christ be with you.” OFFERTORY COLLECTION January 18, 2015 Sunday Collection: $ 11,466.00 Electronic Parish Giving: $ 640.00 Mission Membership Sunday: $1,403.00 Capital Needs Debt Collection: $ 468.00 Electronic Parish Giving: $ 60.00 Candles: $ 199.00 Poor Box: $ 325.00 The GIRM helps in this by saying in Chapter II par.82: “…the faithful express to each other their ecclesial communion and mutual charity…it is appropriate that each person, in a sober manner, offer the sign of peace only to those nearest.” During the flu season, priests, deacons, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion should be especially reminded of the need to practice good preventative hygiene. Ministers of Holy Communion should be encouraged to wash their hands before Mass begins, and even to use an alcohol-based anti-bacterial solution before and after distributing Holy Communion. Junior Choir News: The Junior Choir is open to all youth of the parish, second grade and above. You may join anytime during the year. We welcome all. For more information, please call Mary Ziccardi at 435-0901. The faithful should be instructed not to receive from the cup if they feel ill. That "no one is ever under an obligation to receive from the chalice" and that "anyone who is ill, or suspects he or she is ill, should refrain from receiving from the chalice out of good will and consider receiving the host in the hand rather than by the mouth."
