THE PEACH BUZZ - Atlanta Kiwi Club
THE PEACH BUZZ NEWSLETTER OF THE ATLANTA KIWI CLUB FEBRUARY, 2015 From Celena: From Pat : The Kiwis met at ‘Capers’ in Kennesaw with five members in attendance: Celena Bullard, Pat Evans, Nancy Baumberger, Mary Moss and Chris Moeckel. Over lunch we discussed how to entice more of our membership to attend the fun events of our club. We will continue this discussion at our meeting in February, so do attend and express your desires. We are interested in hearing from each and every Kiwi. Is it time for our club to go to a quarterly meeting schedule: summer, fall, winter, spring? This is only two less meetings per year, and may result in more Kiwis attending. Of primary concern is the location of meetings held at restaurants. We have a number of Kiwis who live beyond the Perimeter (Kennesaw, Woodstock, Alpharetta) who spend a lot of time traveling to our events. Even the Kiwis who live south of the Perimeter toward Atlanta must travel north on occasion. Can we find a “middle ground”? You do not want to miss the February Kiwi gettogether! Chris is going to show the movie "Three Guys Named Mike" which was about AA and stewardesses, if you remember it. Van Johnson and Jane Wyman starred in it. It’s going to be lots of fun! Don’t forget to bring your donations for the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children to this meeting. They can use coats and clothes, shoes and handbags, hats and gloves, sleep wear, robes, slippers, sweaters, jackets, and any other items you may want to give to them. Also, at the meeting at Chris’s home we will discuss charitable endeavors that we can incorporate into our plans that don’t require stress overload. Please give this some serious thought and bring your ideas to share in February. We are getting to the time in life where we don’t want to do “projects,” so we need to have another focus. Please bring your ideas to the February meeting so we can hash out how we want our club to go forward in 2015. We look forward to seeing you at the Valentine’s meeting in February. It’s my understanding that there will be “See’s Candies” there, so don’t miss out on that!!! Also, our very talented Chris will do “show and tell” of her work product. Be sure to check out the ‘Photo Club’ that Bobbi Rullan is starting - see page 2. Saturday, February 14 VALENTINE’S DAY at the home of Chris Moeckel 1831 Hardman Lane, Woodstock, GA 30188 770-231-0847 (Cell) Chris lives just outside the Fulton County line 11:30 am (Directions on page 4) GETTING TO KNOW YOU. . . . . What’s YOUR Story??? Please send it to your Atlanta Kiwi Newsletter editor so your Sister Kiwis can “Get to Know You!” (gingermcd3@gmail.com) Atlanta Kiwi Photography Group You may have received an email from Bobbi Rullan who would like to start an Atlanta Kiwi Photography Group with the intention of adding some diversion in our senior years AND have fun doing it! GRAPE SALAD (This is the delicious salad that Mary Moss brought to the Christmas Party) 2 lbs green seedless grapes 2 lbs red seedless grapes 8 oz sour cream 8 oz cream cheese (softened) 1/2 cup sugar (granulated) 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup crushed pecans As your photo ringleader, she will send an email each month with the photography assignments. At the following meeting, you will bring three of your favorite photos to ‘show and tell.’ This is NOT to be competitive, but hopefully, you will become enthused with each other's work and learn from one another. Who knows...you may become addicted to this awesome media! Mix first six ingredients by hand until blended. Soften cream cheese in microwave as needed. (45 seconds) Stir grapes and mixture Pour into large serving bowl. Each month, in addition to the "assignment", Bobbi will include some tips in order for you to enjoy your newly-discovered hobby (and perhaps passion) even further. This will only work if we participate, so let’s get on board with Bobbi! Topping: Combine brown sugar and pecans. Sprinkle over the top of the grapes to cover completely. Chill over night. Can easily be halved and turns out well. Someday Everything Will Make Perfect Sense. Sense So, for now, laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears and keep reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason. Happy February Birthday, Liz Brown Mynatt! On 2/16! 2 PHOTOS FROM THE JANUARY KIWI LUNCH/MEETING Thank you, Chris for providing these photos! HOPE Be sure to check out your Kiwi Club Websites! "Hope is not a granted wish or a favor performed; no, it’s far greater than that. It’s a zany, unpredictable dependence on a God who loves to surprise us out of our socks and be there in the flesh to see our reaction."
