Post Context:
NATO Special Operations Component Command - Afghanistan (NSOCC-A) Mission: Resolute Support
Special Operations Forces (SOF) will Train, Advise and Assist (TAA) the Afghan Special Security
Forces (ASSF) to conduct full spectrum Special Operations in order to prevent insurgents from
threatening the stability and sovereignty of Afghanistan and denying international terrorists’ safe haven.
Commander (COM) NSOCC-A is responsible for Special Operation Forces in the CJOA-A. The Chief of
Staff (COS) coordinates all staff activities in support of NSOCC-A, and provides Secretary Joint Staff and
Protocol functions to the Command pertaining to NATO and partner nations. The incumbent provides
protocol support and related functions for NSOCC-A.
Principle Duties:
Serves as the single point of contact for protocol functions of the NSOCC-A HQ.
Handles protocol matters for Distinguished Visitors (DV) including meals, billeting and transportation etc.
Coordinates technical and logistic support including automated data processing support,
communications equipment, transportation, drivers, office space, billeting, budgeting, maintenance,
minor construction, administration and supply, security, and interpreters.
Oversees development of plans.
Maintains an overview of joint operations and maintains an understanding of the future planning direction
from COM, COS, and CJ-3.
Plans ceremonies and formal functions, ensuring proper seating, arrangement of flags, crowd control,
and supervision of detail personnel.
Highlights to any DVs, all significant times, sites, and events that may interest DVs considering the threat
environment, force structure and composition, current plans, annexes, operating instructions,
requirements, and adaptation of future plans coordination to current operations.
Directly supervises Staff Assistant (Admin) serving as protocol assistant.
Additional Duties:
May be required to perform like duties elsewhere within the organisation as directed.
Essential Qualifications:
Professional/Experience:
Protocol Experience
Education/Training:
Higher Secondary education and completed related higher vocational training leading to a formal
technical or professional certification with 3 years related experience or Secondary education and
completed related advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification or accreditation
with 5 years related experience.
Language:
English: Very Good level of written and spoken language skills.
Note: The normal working language within the organisation is English.

Public speaking experience.
Education/Training:
NATO Protocol Course (M1-117)
NATO Staff Officer Orientation Course (M5-32)
Personal Attributes:
The incumbent works autonomously in meeting objectives and timelines, setting priorities based on
professional judgment. Must display a very high level of both organizational and inter-personal
sensitivity, diplomacy, courtesy and tact, along with strong communication skills, to ensure necessary
interaction at all levels, within and outside the organization.
Must display a high level of fluency and clarity of expression, both oral and written, with a specific ability
to handle details; Must display a high level of maturity, poise, tact, and firmness when leading
recruitment campaigns. Must display initiative and pragmatism to develop and propose new policy and
changes to existing policies. In addition to integrity, flexibility, and discretion, must possess critical
thinking skills combined with the ability to plan and organize, displaying the highest sense of commitment
to the Organization and to the job.
Managerial Responsibilities:
There are first line reporting responsibilities for 1 OR-8.
Professional Contacts:
Regular professional contacts with others inside and/or outside immediate organization on functional
matters. Solicits/gives information and provides advice/guidance.
Contribution to Objectives:
Work involves the provision of information or analysis of part of a task assisting others to take action
within the organization.
Work Environment:
The work is normally performed in a typical Office / Secure Facility environment. Slightly Undesirable
Conditions apply. The risk of injury is categorised as: No Risk.

Additional Remarks:
An initial 12 month contract will be offered and contract extensions may be possible. Because of the
dynamic environment, RS posts are under regular review and therefore post details and responsibilities,
including contract duration and contractual grade may change during the advertising and contractual
period.
Benefit Package:
Monthly salary of € 5,526.00 (Tax free in the host country).
Daily Allowance of € 84.68 while working in Afghanistan.
Installation allowance of ½ initial monthly basic salary.
Start and End of Contract paid transportation from residence to theatre and return.
Two days of annual leave per month.
7 days "Leave from Theatre" plus reimbursement of travel expenses up to 1000 Euro for every 6 months
spent in Theatre.
Medical Insurance from Cigna (including death and disability coverage), small fee charged plus 50% of
monthly premium covered by RS HQ.
Free accommodation in the camp.
Meals of good/reasonable quality available to purchase.
Laundry is at a nominal charge through the contracted laundry company.

Clothing Allowance of 400 Euro per year.
Medical and Immunization package prior to deployment.
Meal allowances 2.33 EUR per day.
