Media Release SMEC Supplies Safe Drinking Water in Pakistan 18 February 2015 SMEC and Engineering General Consultants (EGC), a SMEC subsidiary, have been engaged (as part of a consortium) to provide engineering management services to the Government of Punjab on the Saaf Pani Clean Water Project in Pakistan. This project forms part of a government initiative to supply sustainable drinking water to residents in rural and peri-urban areas of Punjab, currently with access to only contaminated or brackish water sources. The objectives of the project are: to guarantee the availability of safe drinking water; ensure a water source is no further than 1 km from its place of use; and provide a minimum of four litres of safe drinking water per person, per day. The consultancy will be carried out in the districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Lodhran and Rahim Yar Khan.
