Volume 34, Issue 4 The Witness April 2016 St. Margaret's Episcopal Church Dear Friends, This year’s Holy Week has been one of the most special weeks for me. Sure, it was stressful with my mom’s death right before Palm Sunday and being out of town for the first part of the week. But I was blessed to have all of my family with me - my dad from Illinois and my son from Germany, my two daughters, and of courses my wife. We were able to be at the Holy Week services together. The Holy Week services tell the story of Jesus’s arrest and crucifixion followed by his resurrection on Easter. My grief over Jesus’s death was more keenly felt because of my grief over the death of my mother. My joy at Jesus’s resurrection was more intense because of the hope for my mother’s resurrection with her Lord. Being surrounded by the love from my family and my church family has been a great comfort and joy for me. There are some many special moments that I will treasure from this Holy Week experience. Special points of interest: Photos SMEC Outing Graduates I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve received from you. Several families assisted Brenda, Qua’Nazja, and Katy while I was out of town - and the food we received was delicious! Thank you to all who provided it and especially to Sandy Huggins for coordinating all the help. We received numerous cards with messages of love and sympathy, which my Dad also enjoyed reading. A special thank you to John Lively and Chris Kirby, our wardens, for their leadership while I was away; they made sure that the services ran smoothly. It was also a joy to share the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services with Fr. Tom Rickenbacker, and a huge help to have him do some of the preaching. Inside this issue: Holy Week is central to our faith as a reminder of the salvation we have through the life, death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This year will stay with me as one of the most blessed Holy Weeks I have experienced. Due to a myriad of factors, we decided against this action at this time. However, as fewer people are obtaining checks and having cash on hand is now somewhat of a rarity, we do believe sometime in the future that we will need to offer this as an option to the congregation. I would like to hear your thoughts on this idea, from your possible interest in donating in this way to possible benefits/ drawbacks to this new donation method. Thanks in advance for all of your input. Terry Burgess-Stewardship SMEC Outing LET’S GO BOWLING!
