February 18, 2015 Top Ten List: THINGS YOU CAN TAKE ON FOR THE LENTEN SEASON Prayer Power “O my God, in you I trust, for you are the God of my salvation.” Psalm 25:2, 5 10. Try an electronic fast. Give up TV, texting, tweeting, e-mail and all things electronic for one day every week (or everyday of Lent!). Use the time to read & pray. 9. Start a prayer rhythm. Say a prayer every time you brush your teeth, hear an ambulance, or check your e-mail. Before you call or text someone, pray for them. 8. Read one chapter in the Bible each day. (Matthew's a good book to start with. Psalms, too.) 7. Forgive someone who doesn't deserve it (maybe even yourself.) 6. Give up soft drinks, fast food, tea or coffee. Give the money you save to a local charity, the church or others in crisis. 5. Create a daily quiet time. Spend 30 minutes a day in silence and prayer. 4. Cultivate a life of gratitude. Write someone a thank you letter each week and be aware of how many people have helped you along the way. 3. Be kind to someone each day. 2. Pray for others you see as you walk to and from classes or drive to and from work or those you see while shopping. 1. Volunteer one hour or more each week with a local shelter, tutoring program, nursing home, prison ministry, food pantry, or other local mission. Stations of the Cross This year during Holy Week we will experience a Stations of the Cross Journey. This is a journey taken to help us remember and meditate upon the scenes of Christ’s suffering and death. This will be an individual prayer journey. We will have a sign up for individuals, families, Sunday School classes or groups to design a station during Lent. These stations will consist of scripture and visual representation of the scene you are constructing. Use your creativity and gifts God has given you to express your station for others to experience. Preparing a station can be a wonderful spiritual experience during Lent itself. We will also be asking for volunteers to man the stations during the time it is open. If you have any questions, please see Tammy Grey. BIBLE STUDY FOR LENT Beginning Wednesday February 25th our Adult Net program will resume. Dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a Lenten Bible Study led by John Adams. Dinner will be pizza, salad and dessert. The study will be “Thank God It’s Thursday” (Encountering Jesus at the Lord's Table as if for the Last Time). We hope you will take time during this Lenten season to attend.
