Redeemer Presbyterian exists to glorify God as a Gospel presence in downtown Charleston by being a grace-filled community that worships Christ and develops disciples who serve Him in our families, neighborhoods, and the nations. Order of Worship February 22, 2015 CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 115 LEADER: Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. PEOPLE: Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?” Our God is in heaven. LEADER: You who fear him, trust in the Lord—he is their help and shield. The Lord remembers us and will bless us: He will bless those who fear the Lord— small and great alike. May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. PEOPLE: The heavens are the heavens of the LORD, but the earth He has given to the sons of men. The dead do not praise the LORD, nor do any who go down into silence; but as for us, we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forever. LEADER: Praise the Lord! SONGS OF PRAISE O WORSHIP THE KING O worship the King, All glorious above, And gratefully sing, His power and His love: Our Shield and Defender, The Ancient of Days, Pavilioned in splendor, And girded with praise. O tell of His might, And sing of His grace, Whose robe is the light, Whose canopy space. His chariots of wrath, The deep thunderclouds form, And dark is His path, On the wings of the storm. continued 2 Thy bountiful care, What tongue can recite? It breathes in the air; It shines in the light. It streams from the hills; It descends to the plain, And sweetly distills, In the dew and the rain. Frail children of dust, And feeble as frail, In Thee do we trust, Nor find Thee to fail. Thy mercies how tender! How firm to the end! Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend! HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING There is an endless song, Echoes in my soul I hear the music ring And though the storms may come, I am holding on To the rock I cling How can I keep from singing Your praise, How can I ever say enough How amazing is Your love, How can I keep from shouting Your name I know I am loved by the King, And it makes my heart want to sing I will lift my eyes, In the darkest night For I know my Savior lives And I will walk with You, Knowing You’ll see me through And sing the songs You give (chorus) 3 Wee Ones Children are a blessing to the Redeemer family! For all nursery-related questions, find our on-duty Church Mouse next door. A nursery is provided on the first floor of the Education building for children up to 3 years. Pick up a kids’ clip case (black for ages 3-6; blue for ages 7-10) on your way into the service. Return to the baskets afterward. Just before the intercessory prayer, feel free to dismiss your children (3K-Kindergarten) for Children’s Church where they’ll sing songs, receive age-appropriate, Gospel-centered teaching, and make crafts. Pick up your child on the second floor next door. Welcome Home If you’d like more information about church membership, attend one of our inquirers’ classes. Our list of scheduled class dates is available on our website. Washroom Restrooms and water coolers are located on the first and second floors of the Education building. SING TO THE LORD Righteous Ruler of the heavens Holy, holy, our God Sovereign Lord of all creation Holy, holy, our God Every tribe and tongue, Lift your voice as one, He is greatly to be praised Sing to the Lord, oh my soul Let the heavens shout for joy Great is our God Great is our God Nations come and bow before Him Holy, holy, our God Angels sing now and forever Holy, holy, our God (chorus) Jesus, come let us adore him Holy, holy, our God Jesus, come let us adore him Holy, holy, our God (chorus) PRAYER OF CONFESSION from Psalm 28 UNISON: To you I call, O LORD my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who have gone down to the pit. Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place. (silent prayers of confession) UNISON: Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever. 4 AMAZING GRACE GREATER THAN OUR SIN Marvelous grace of our loving Lord, Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt, Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured, There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt! Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that will pardon and cleanse within! Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin! Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold, Threaten the soul with infinite loss. Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold, Points to the refuge, the mighty Cross. (chorus) Dark is the stain that we cannot hide. What can avail to wash it away? Look! There is flowing a crimson tide; Whiter than snow you may be today. (chorus) OFFERTORY Parents, if you’d like for your children (3K-Kindergarten) to participate in Children’s Church, please dismiss them after the offering is collected. INTERCESSORY PRAYER See right sidebar for information about this week’s missions project and left sidebar for information about this week’s community group. 5 Where in the World The Children’s Home Bhogpur, located in Northern India, has its founding and expansion largely due to the tireless efforts of David and Eleanor Fiol. The Home’s mission is to see underprivileged children from leprosy-affected communities cared for, educated, and morally nurtured to become well adjusted in today’s world as living witnesses of our Lord Jesus Christ. There are 298 children in the Home receiving care, education, and sound Biblical teaching. They are nurtured by a staff dedicated to seeing that the children grow in their knowledge of God and love for Jesus Christ. Redeemer currently sponsors four children at $60/month per child. Pray for Redeemer’s children in the Home— sisters Ritu and Mohini Kumari and brothers Rohan and Harry Mahato. Pray that God would raise them up to be godly men and women who will share the Gospel with the world around them. See home4children.com for more information. Rev. Here’s how you can help: Offer a spare bed to David while he’s here in Charleston (for a night or two, a week, etc.) Show him some Charleston sights by letting him tag along with your family on your day at the beach or your tour of Fort Sumter. Take him along to shadow you at work for the day (especially if you have an interesting job!). Invite him to bike with you over the Ravenel Bridge. These are just a few ideas, but Nell is open to others as she makes plans for David’s trip (March 28-April 12). So contact Nell via email (vernelleevans@gmail.com) this week with how you can help. Find announcements, more details about upcoming events, and information about church life in our weekly Email Blast—available at redeemer-charleston.org/email-blast and on our Facebook page.
