The first mission will be held in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson on February 23 –25 at 7PM. It will be preached by Fr. John Savard, SJ, rector of the Jesuit community at Holy Cross. A penance service will be held on Wednesday night of the mission week. I encourage everyone who is able to attend. It’s a great opportunity to be nourished during this special time of the year. We use this season of preparation to grow closer to God through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. This year, our parish will use Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that helps families experience Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity with people in need around the world. Students (grade 1-8) will receive a cardboard CRS Rice Bowl and a Lenten calendar, which contain a prayer or reflection for you to say as a family each day throughout Lent, recipes for meatless Fridays and stories of Hope from people around the world. We hope that this will be a valuable tool for your family’s Lenten journey! Rice Bowls will be distributed during your child’s class and will also be available at Church. Rice Bowls will be collected on Saturday, March 28th. 2015 Catholic Relief Services FoodFast On Saturday, March 28th young adults from St. Patrick’s Church & St. Columba Church (50 +) will participate in C.R.S. FoodFast. FoodFast is a 24-hour event, which includes fasting, prayer, service activities and discussion on the issues of hunger and poverty in the world. The theme of this year’s retreat will be “ENOUGH”. The fact is there really is “ENOUGH” food in our world for all. Participants in FoodFast will follow the lead of Pope Francis and ask themselves why in a world with “ENOUGH” food for all do then over 1 billion people go hungry? And what can we do as high school students to help? All youth Gr. 9-12 are invited to be part of something BIG! Registration & parental consent forms are available on the parish website. ST.
