ABOUT ANDHRA UNIVERSITY:
Andhra University (AU) was founded in 1926. It is one of the oldest and premier Universities
in India. The University has been offering a wide range of graduate, post graduate and
research programs in various disciplines in Arts, Sciences, Law and Engineering. Since the
day of its inception, the University has indeed, been keeping up with its tradition of a national
interface. Besides its routine contribution to cultivating, nurturing and grooming up of the
top-notch class intellectuals for the nation, its unique presence is strongly felt even in the
international scenario from its research and innovations in the field of Science, Engineering
and Technology. Andhra University College of Engineering (Autonomous) is one of the
constituent Colleges with a separate campus spanning an area of over 167 acres and it is also
the first Autonomous College in the constituent institution. Andhra University College of
Engineering (Autonomous) has strength of 3000 students in 15 Departments studying in 17
Under-Graduate programs and 42 Post-Graduate programs. Andhra University College of
Engineering (Autonomous) is also accredited by the NAAC with an 'A' grade and its 16
Engineering Post-Graduate programs are approved by the AICTE and also accredited by the
NBA; 7 Departments for five years and 2 Departments for three years. It is also selected as one
of the lead institute under TEQIP and has also been selected as one of the institute considered
for upgradation to IIT status out of the seven institutes selected from all over India. Andhra
University College of Engineering (A) is also one of the most preferred colleges by NRI
students. The college has 333 Ph.D. scholars who are actively engaged in research. Its faculty
and scholars have published 1,556 research papers in National / International Journals and
Conference proceedings during the last five years and 406 research scholars were awarded
Ph.D. degrees.
ABOUT VISAKHAPATNAM
Visakhapatnam is geographically located on the East Coast of India at the vantage point of
almost at the center of the East Coast line between the two IITs (IIT-Kharagpur and IITMadras). Visakhapatnam is an ever expanding industrial city and located in the north-eastern
region of Andhra Pradesh and is on the shores of the Bay of Bengal. Once ruled by the Andhra
kings of Vengi, the Cholas and the Gangas, this port city is bound to keep you enthralled.
Visakhapatnam railway station is on the main line of Howrah and Chennai. The city has direct
links with Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and other important places by rail,
road and air as well. Visakhapatnam is blessed with sprawling golden beaches, splendid
monuments and ancient temples. On a clear day, Visakhapatnam presents a fine view from the
Kailasagiri hills. Some of the industries like Hindustan Shipyard, Visakhapatnam Port Trust,
BHPV, HPCL, Visakha Steel Plant (RINL), NTPC, HZL, etc and located in this city.
Visakhapatnam is also the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy.
The city is speedily progressing towards a great future as it is experiencing an all-round
development. Population is approximately 30 lakhs and its altitude is 4.5m above the mean
sea level.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING:
The Department of Chemical Engineering was started in 1933 and is one of pioneering
institutions in India to offer education in Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology.
Over the years, the Department has expanded its research activities and courses. The
Department of Chemical Engineering has diversified its course offerings to areas like
Petroleum Refinery Engineering, Energy Engineering, Electrochemical and Corrosion
Engineering, Reaction Engineering, Process Dynamics and Control, Mineral Process
Engineering and Biotechnology besides core Chemical Engineering. The Department
currently offers 3 Under-Graduate and 5 Post-Graduate programs in these areas. It also
fosters Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Research. The research activities in the Department are
funded by the UGC, MHRD, AICTE, MNES, etc. The Department of Chemical Engineering
is actively involved in Consultancy Services and caters to the needs of the local industries.
Excellent laboratories have been developed with state-of-the-art equipment like 6kW Fuel
Cell Test Station, 1kW DC Electronic Load Banks, Ultra Sonicator, Muffle Furnace, Gas
Control Facility, Atomic Absorption Spectroscope, Experimental Reactor, ComputerControlled Packed Distillation Column, Gas-Liquid Chromatography, RDC Column, UltraFilter, Lyophilize, etc. The faculty members are actively involved in research in the areas of
Fuel Cell Technology, Heat Transfer, Biotechnology, Mineral Processing, Fluid Flow,
