Sarah Jarrell , Hanes Magnet Middle School & Dominick Manusos, Appalachian State University AF NCTSA Pin Designed by: R.T.TROXLER MEMORIAL AWARD R NCTSA Program Cover Designed by: Ardrey Kell High School D A $100 award has been established for the Technology Student Association for Prepared Speech in middle school and Prepared Presentation in high school in honor of Robert Tinnen Troxler. R.T. Troxler was a professor at NC State University in the School of Education. He was much loved by all that knew him. He spent his life devoted to the advancement of teachers and students in Technology Education and always participated in the students’ competitive events every year. In his day it was called Industrial Arts. He taught at NCSU in this area for 44 years retiring at age 70, in 1989 only because it was mandatory. He loved teaching, creating, inventing and learning new things. He taught drafting and architectural drawing the old school way with drawing boards and T-squares. He also taught woodworking, ceramics, product design and many other classes at NC State. He was a lifelong learner and spent much time at the DH Hill Library in research. He would have loved Google and the Internet at the tip of his fingers, but his time was before computers. He was a joy to be around and a very positive and thought-provoking person who touched the lives of many people in the area of Industrial Arts and Technology Education. He was quite a leader and the president of many organizations throughout his life. He enjoyed entertaining a crowd and was an excellent public speaker equipped with great stories and wonderful jokes. He used the old slide-show projectors before the age of Power Points. Troxler always wore his signature bow-tie and looked for ways to add fun to his classes by cooking his students’ breakfast on some unusual cooking equipment or ending his class with a picnic or party. It is in honor of this great man, as a wonderful teacher, speaker, friend and father that the R.T. Troxler Memorial Award has been established.
