“The Celebrated Jumping Frog of
Calaveras County”
The method of teaching by means
of parables has been done throughout the
ages, so it is not surprising that Jesus used
this form of teaching, "He spoke many
things to them in parables;" [Matthew 13:3].
His disciples ask Him, Why do You speak to
them in parables?" Jesus reply, To you it
has been granted to know the mysteries of
the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has
not been granted." [Matthew 13:10-11.] My
simple explanation of the term 'parable' is
an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.
Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let
him hear." It seems that parables are meant
for those spiritually tuned in.
Allow me to share with you a type of
parable not from Jesus, but, from a story
told about Robert Frost. It seems his first
assignment to a class of teachers was to
read “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of
Calaveras County”. Mark Twain's of the frog
that failed the jumping contest because he
had been pumped full of bird shot. When
the class next assembled they were
mystified; they didn't understand what this
story had to do with a course in education.
Frost explained that the story was about
teachers. "There two kinds of teachers; the
kind that fill you with so much bird shot that
you can't move, and the kind that give you a
little prod behind and you jump to the
skies."
Socrates taught for forty years,
Plato for fifty, Aristotle for forty, and Jesus
for only three. Yet the influence of Jesus'
three year ministry infinitely transcends the
impact left by the combined 130 years of the
teaching of these great philosophers. Jesus
wrote no poetry; but Dante, Milton, and
scores of the world's great poets
were inspired by Him. Every sphere of
human greatness has been enriched by
Him.

Ozark Christian College—At the end of the current school year, two long-time professors at Ozark Christian
College will be retiring. Woody Wilkinson has been teaching there since 1993. His students will testify that he
makes Old Testament History class come alive as he hides behind desks, leaping, shrieking, and using varied
voices as he presents Bible stories. The impact of his life will carry on in the ministries of his students. Kenny
Boles will have taught at Ozark for 45 years! He has taught everything from Life of Christ and Acts, to the Epistles
and Old Testament Poetry. His favorite subject is Greek, even teaching his students how to sing Christmas carols
in Greek! After retirement he and his wife plan to travel and spoil the grandkids. At the end of last semester, Brian
Brubaker, professor of New Testament, left Ozark to become a full time preaching minister at Miami, Oklahoma.
Christian Campus House—“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21.
Rather than thinking about dollars and cents preceding your arrival in heaven, consider that your gift is responsible
for souls who will be there because of your investment. During the past year at CCH the gospel has changed
lives, relationships, vocations, lifestyles—this was due to the testimony of supporters who chose to give rather
than “lay up for themselves treasures on earth.” Thank you for supporting a ministry that houses a hundred
students who benefit greatly from the Christian community around them. Lance Tamerius, Director
CMCE—The March meeting will be held at Parkview Christian Church in Centralia. Tim Worstell from the
Crossroads Christian Church in Macon will be speaking on, “Alive in Christ” from Ephesians 2:1-10. The meal will
be served at 6:30 pm, followed by a brief business and a worship service.
Mission Minute
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; old things have passed away; behold,
all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Taking Christ to Taiwan—In Taiwan it is difficult to believe in God. The concept of a loving God is foreign and
hard to accept. We were recently told that, to a Taiwanese person, it is rude to tell a god that you love them.
Believing in the God of the Bible is only half the struggle because they have to decide to follow Him and let Him
lead them and change their lives. The believers need your prayer support. Please continually pray for your
brothers and sisters in Taiwan.
“Me & My House” (Mexico) – On March 6 Tony, Chelsea McCord, Rachel Phipps, Regina Neale, and Robert
Welch will leave to spend a week working with the Sanchezes in Manzanillo, Mexico. They will be conducting a
Vacation Bible School and taking school supplies (and peanut butter!) with them. Please keep them in your
prayers for safe travel, new appreciation for our missionaries, and much to be accomplished to help out.
Central Christian College of the Bible—“Tapping Your Potential” is the theme of Men’s Day & Banquet on
Thursday, March 12. Jim Powell, Senior Minister of the Richwoods Christian Church in Peoria, IL, will be the
workshop leader and banquet speaker. The workshop will be at 4:30 pm, followed by appetizers at 6:00 and the
banquet at 6:30. Registration is $20 ($15 for alumni) and can be paid at the door. Please sign up on the bulletin
board by March 9 so they know how many for which to prepare. An offering will be taken to go towards replacing
the locks and doors in Lang and Spurling Halls.
The Missouri Christian Convention—will be at Tan-Tar-A at Lake of the Ozarks, March 20-21. The theme is
“Forward”. The main speakers will be Jeff Walling from Pepperdine University, and Brian Jobe, preaching
minister at the Harvester Christian Church in St. Charles. There will also be workshop sessions throughout the
convention, and a separate Youth Convention for children from nursery to 12th grade.
